His next contract will be very low, but his current contract that he signed last time is very healthy - we had to beat off interest from perth, we paid for that

If we delisted him it just means we add a pick 18 picks after our current last one. So something probably in the 70's or 60's. The odds are terrible...and that's not even taking into account our awful track record

Ahhh two of my favorite failures lol. I agree not much point digging for gold past the 60's.
I like what the Swans did last year. They got 3 young players in the National Draft & 5 young players in the Rookie Draft. Not many will make it.
But Papley & Marsh were Rookies.
They currently have 13 under 21yo as at the last time the footywire list was updated.
So if they do that each year, and everything around the club, eg coaching & game plan stays up to scratch, they will just keep playing finals.

Was just thinking about the rookies as I was reading through this thread and then I find your post. Nice. :thumbsu: We have found a few off our rookies as well.

Yeah a bit like throwing darts. Throw enough and your bound to hit some bulls eyes.

Jake Lloyd, Xavier Richards, Dane Rampe, Brandon Jack, Sam Naismith, Shane Biggs (Bulldogs), Harry Cunningham all from the Swans Rookies over the last 4 years. A pretty handy list!

We have found a few. Others probably have also. But I was amazed at how many they have got from there since 2011.

We've done pretty well the last 3 years: Miles, Short, Castagna and Lambert with Soldo, Chol and C.Moore as longer term prospects. Before that though, we completely stuffed the rookie draft about 3-4 years in a row.

I actually rate Conca. I think he can be a great depth player for us through the midfield in the future. Injures make him a risk for any team to trade but all the best teams have solid midfield replacements fighting for a chance in the VFL, for years we have not had this. By retaining players like Conca, who are cusp players in the side, we are starting to create this.

I hope this trade period provides plenty of motivation for both Conca and Lennon to play out of their skins next season to fight their way back into the team or at the very least, make themselves attractive to another club!

Na we have found very few rookies or more to the point junior rookies. since the inception of the rookie draft.
WE must have had 50 - 80 rookie picks over the yrs and you can count on one hand the good ones and all of them have been mature pick ups.
