yeah...i cant see it happening. its just too much football. there would have to be some serious changes to the sizes of lists. like they would need to add about 10 or 15 to each one, and increase the rookie list size too.

personally, id prefer to see the NAB scrapped, add two SOO weekends early in the season then add 3 split rounds later in the season to give everyone breaks later in the season.

exactly, plus the season would start in late january in the hot weather.

Your idea is good, the NAB should be scrapped

but it would be fair. each team playing each other twice would be great. you could also cut the finals series down to three weeks (top five) and get rid of the preseason cup. all players can only play a miximum of 25 games in a year. its a 33 week season compared to a 31 (with the split included) week season.

You cant limit players games, cant imagine Yze and Crouch liking that one!

Id love to see a 30 week season but its just not viable, unless you were to have unlimited interchange players (think NFL, 38 man team!). And the song would have to change...

"oh, theres one day in early November..."

Last two years have illustrated it's complete uselessness.

Scrap it, add three more round and one SOO round.

exactly, 30 is way too long and the NAB is proving to be a waste of time

start the season earlier then, play all the games at night. so what if it gets too hot for the vic teams we go over there and play in the arctic tundra. you can come over here and sweat a little.;)

Early morning or twilight games at Aurora Stadium (hey, we have a siren now!) in February, sounds good

Scrap the preseason stuff and the international rules, add an extra 3 rounds, keep the bye weekend and introduce another bye weekend for State Of Origin and have a top 6 not 8. The extra rounds make it a little bit fairer and half the competition shouldnt qualify for finals.

MCG was out til ANZAC day this year
Telstra Stadium is always an option in Sydney
The GABBA? Well the AFL want games at Carrara dont they

Solved, solved and solved

most of that is state cricket anyway. send em somewhere else. or with all that great daylight saving you people from the east have maybe we could have a few midweek twilight games. think outside the square.

Telstra dome, AAMI, Telstra Stadium, Subiaco, York Park and Carrara could be used
Also need the possibility of some of the old Victorian grounds opening

Victorian grounds will not be opened back up because the costs involved in opening them, but the other grounds that you listed would be used. And to the wacka that suggested moving state cricket, **** off footy can wait for the final 2 or 3 weeks of the cricket season to finish.

The fixture isnt right at the moment, it needs to be fixed. There are too many advantages for clubs each year.

Its either every team plays each other once

or

we merge 4 teams into 2 (which we know wont happen) and then each team gets to play each other twice.

It means there isnt the huge advantage for interstate teams that there is at the moment in the current fixture. And a team wont have the possibility of getting to play some of the very weak sides twice and strong teams only once. The fixture needs amending.

A 30 week season is a bit too much.

I was reading the other day back in the late 90's (and is still possibly done this way, im not sure could some one find that out) the fixture was done by splitting the ladder from the previous year into two groups (top 8 and bottom 8) and those in each group would play each other twice (so all of the top 8 played each other twice and all of the bottom 8 played each other twice) with the AFL taking out "blockbuster" games (anzac day, queens birthday, etc). which is as fair as it can be with out the players vatiguing to much come seasons end with a 30 round season.

You'd have to extent the list size and the size of the interchange bench to keep players fresh. 30 is no way a viable option, think maybe 24 would be grand.

Pre-season should stay. Gives youngsters are chance to impress, and provides proper match fitness before the main season starts.

Nothing wrong with the current system, except SOO needs to be slotted in somewhere.
