Why do people mention Gibiscus as a Key Long Term Defender where he has only played a handful of games prior to his injuries. He has not yet established himself as a Key Defender nor has he been listed as one of the best players for Richmond nor has achieved a BOG performance. Everything is heresay at the moment where players such as Trainor Blight or even Young have the potential to be better contributors.

His body wasn't right but dim wit played him from the word get go. He showed a lot to like in an atrocious defense. In reality would have played him in the vfl to build him up his first season.

He played 17 games in his first season
Wouldn’t call that a handful

How can Trainer be mentioned here when he has play no games. They are very similar in style, but Gibcus looks a natural footballer so has some runs on the board. Young is a defensive stopper type. Cops a bit of flak on here, but has done well from where he has come from. Blight could surprise, he seems like he wants it. But Gibcus looks a class above those two.

Gibcus? played 16 games 3rd tall next to Tarrant & Balta. & Grimes, Broad, Vlas. Rested for few games. Got one game of valuable final experience. He was running 15 kms a game.
Didn't play in 23.
2 games under Yze in 24.

Gibcus had an exceptional 1st year for a KPD.
Especially when you factor in, he played more shut down style which isnt his go and he often (not always) got the best forward.

we shouldnt have debuted him until 2028 to be safe

idiots

Funny this is about Trainor, but he hardly gets a mention.

Hope Luke proves my worries wrong and has a long and successful career. His ability is top 5 worthy. The training reports suggest that he is absolutely crushing it. So hopefully an amazing pick up for us.

Reckon he projects as the intercepting, quarterback role. Gibcus is much the same, but taller and more likely to be able to play both shut down and attacking. Although Gibcus could also play forward - maybe (given we have a lot of KPFs now we'll see what the club does)

reckon easy to play Gibcus forward and Trainor more a natural quaterback.

I would try Gibcus forward given his injuries and Trainor theoretically less likely to get head knocks back versus forward but it depends on how they play and the type of contests they get involved in

Gibcus seems more a leaper versus Trainor more a distributor in general. Nothing has to be set in stone at this stage, it is not like we a prepping for a GF 5 weeks away I do not see them playing the exact same way so they could compliment each other

It is interesting because Armstrong is more your leading type and Gibcus more your leaper I think, but Armstrong would have his side generally as a leftie and being a long kicker the ability to open up the forward line

We'll see how it all unfolds. But we now have far too many talls on the list. But they are a very talented group and so we should end up with spine of high quality, and if we are lucky elite level.

Add in the core of a very good midfield and we have just built what looks like a long term team of very high capability. Just keep building around that core and we will have a team that contends for years.

Trainor, if he stays fit, is likely to be a central part of that. High end intercept / quarterback types are so important.

it is good to see the likes of Blight seemingly having a crack to

Astbury also showed how important he was in 2018 ( when he played ill), structurally we had no answer

watch the mason cox highlights of that game poor dave was nowhere to be seen..... cox dominated grimes and rance and even houli was contesting. most probably dave was in the rooms half the game with explosive squirts and throwing up the lining of his stomach.

He shitted our season away

You think Smith can reach D. Rioli’s level?
As good a chance as anyone we have atm.
Im not sure if he will even make the grade but i am sure about is his attributes.

Like Rioli he has real pace. He is a very good user of the ball. Has agility, Runs the lines, tackles well read the play well and defends well.
When at East Freo all of these thigs were on display it is what had us take him in the ND.
I thought him a steal where we took him.

So far his time with us has been plagued by injuries, which at first had him miss a big chunk of footy and this affect his ability to train when he did get back.

Injury free and a off season where he can build on those strengths get his tank up to speed and im keen to see what he can produce.

Will he make the grade well thats a different question but as i said i think he has all the attributes to play hb at the level.

Agree

In Trainor i think we have a taller Grimes. Kid is very good on the ground and in time unlike Grimes has genuine kpp height and it might take a few years he should bulk enough to permanently play kpd.

To start him at senior level just play him as third tall for a season or two.
Talent wise Balta and Gibcus are our key defenders long term.
With Gibcus coming off a knee then id say Blight has the front running to partner Balta in the early games.
I think the question will be does Trainor or Miller play third tall to start the year.

The three talls all highly rated with Brown who imo could be Broads replacement long term.
Smith has all the needed attributes to replace Rioli and then some. Then only missing piece is Vlastuin's long term replacement. Id like a Vlastuin clone just with a bit more pace though.
Trezise would be my choice as vlas replacement.

We would've went back 2 back premiers in 23/24 if Gibcus played

Gibbo was an early pic who showed plenty of promise hasn’t yet played much more than 20 games , still entitled to believe he can fulfill his promise yet , is he 21yo already ?
