The even spread of this draft suggests to me that all 18 clubs will be claiming to have the 'steal of the 2016 draft' for the next ten years. I'm yet to see a club's fanbase going feral over their selections.
Maybe so, but I once heard a club openly admit that they were disappointed with the outcome of a certain draft; I can't remember what year or club.

No doubt. I was referring to this draft specifically. And we all know that it's what the fans think that matters, not the people inside the club!

It's odd how drafts work out that if you have a reasonable draft presence and a plan to go with it you can come away from it relatively pleased with how it went. It's probably because different clubs are at different stages of their development and each list has different strengths. It strange that you get clubs complementing what they already have just as much as you have them dealing with perceived deficiencies. Just look at what Carlton have done with adding to our list of athletic backmen with Macreadie and drafting Lebois in the rookie draft after already trading for Pickett and drafting Fisher and Polson.

Williamson's waiting game worth it

Williamson has also drawn on the support of his elders. An early influence was Ed Curnow (“totally professional in everything that he does”) and Kade Simpson as the mentor, together with Sam Docherty who also rates a more than honourable mention.

“They have been and are totally generous with their time and I’m just trying to learn from them,” said Williamson, who is now domiciled with a host family in leafy Mont Albert.

“I’m just loving being around them and being part of the Club. I’m just itching to play.”

He's actually a really nice kick. Can look a little unorthodox at times but delivers well weighted kicks.

Will he avenge Carrazzo's AFL Rising Star snub or grow taller than Cripps? Those are the real issues (sometimes I forget what are Talking Carlton jokes and what are Bigfooty ones, oh well).

All those who predicted a round 3 debut?

Nobody.

I like seeing pick 61's playing AFL footy very early, we're doing something right at the draft perhaps.

Didn't pick him for Round 3 but did have as one of 3 most excited about

Felt that if Williamson, Pickett and Polson could get games then the team was heading in the right direction (late picks or cheap trades adding quality/depth into our team)

Well done Tom - all the best

Amazing first quarter and a half, and kept his head when the conditions went against him.

The players had unwavering faith in his left boot. I thought this was a shade early for him, but credit to him he was mentally prepared for everything thrown at him.

Loved his composure and decision making in a tough game. Great start but think we'll see his real skills next week under the roof.

My main concern with the recruitment of athletic flankers is footy nous and willingness to crack in.

This guy is never going to be Cripps, but he'll tackle and he'll go when it's his turn.

And he can kick a damn football pretty good.
