Welcome! We picked to Richmond blokes in the draft. It doesn’t happen that often but it was nice to see.

I personally expected us to pick Sampson Ryan before the draft happened because of the rumours, but I thought we’d pick him with a later ND pick or am early rookie. Still, excited about this pick!

Jack Carroll was still there, I fear we will be reminded by the Blues of this for a long time to come...agree with what was said above, we must think one of this plethora of developing ruckmen is going to replace JR up forward. I guess it is CCJ.

Welcome Samson and good luck.
100% agree with this
Jack Carroll was the slider that many touted as a 1st rounder Ablett,Sheehan were both on the radio saying he is the kid they thought most likely become a very good player due to what he has done in 2020 as an under age player. He was there at our pick and we took a 20 year old project ruck that nobody heard about. and we already have 4 rucks on the list . Rookie pick at best on a 1 year deal . why use a 2nd rounder

Carroll & Rioli + 2021 1st rounder would have been fantastic. Ohh well welcome samson

watch for a while and you should work it out, takes about 10 contested marks, has 40+ hitouts and kicks a goal.

Haha I already ended up spotting him because of how dominant he is in the game. Stands out. Looks like a solid pick-up by us. Love his rucking and aerial game!

Thanks for sharing that with us!

That RCD ends up being a pure mid and does not play back, that RalphSmith plays wing in a premiership team
That's taking things to an extreme, but I wouldn't expect anything less.

"in a premiership team", lol. Be stoked if it happens again.

We've had Edwards play time down back....is he a mid? This is a yes or no question.

I will rephrase it for the pernickety amongst us. RCD will play the majority of whatever career he has as a mid.

And I already was quite clear with RSmith. He'll move up over time, like Bolton is doing. Will he play in a flag side? **** knows!

Welcome Samson. Plenty of years to develop a good ruck. He won’t be rushed. Fills a need.
With Nankervis, Soldo and CCJ on the list, Im surprised we took a long term ruck project. I advocated for a mature age short term, but Soldo will be fit again and we have 26 year old Nankervis, 24 year old Soldo, 21 year old CCJ.

Pretty shocked we added a long term ruck project to that group who are all young enough for ruckmen.

thats a nothing statement, players play for dud teams just to fill quotas.

Thats like saying Ross has already made it

Getting a ruckman does not bother as much as how much our midfield is neglected by our recruiters.

I feel very sorry for Dusty that has to carry such a load as the bigger midfielder.

Do some in the club want to crucify Dusty?

I am feeling back pain from the load Dusty is carrying at the moment!!

if you're looking for footage, he dominated this QAFL Senior game this year. He is also a rabid Tigers supporter

- Q1

- Q2

- Q3

- Q4

Reasonable standard of footy, about 6 ex AFL listed players still in their 20s out there, plus some SANFL Premiership players.

He was best on by a country mile.

For those who can be bothered watching.

  1. Watch at the 12th minute mark of the 1Q. Pick up a ground ball followed by a Shane Edwards like handball over his head.

I hope he uses his physique to impose himself on the opposition. Long term project, but I think we could have a very good player on our hands here. I must admit I was shocked and disappointed that we didnt take Callow, but I'll trust the recruiters. Hope it doesnt turn into a Cripps like situation...

Not behd

Watch the clip on the club website.

I've seen much worse from rucks taken as first round picks. He competes and can take a very good contested mark - that's all we ask for in our rucks.

Definitely ample insurance for this year, it's a smart pick up which addresses our only real list need with Soldo unlikely to play at all next season.

I noticed that as well, how good was that?!

Almost done with the second quarter. Not even exaggerating, but he looks like a solid pick at pick 40 if you ask me. Doesn't look like the most agile and speedy player, but one thing that can translate easily to AFL is football IQ. He knows when to jump in the ruck contest and knows when to stay down. I have basically watched that game for almost an entire half and am yet to see him lose a ruck contest because of the way he approaches it. We know what mis-timed jumping in a ruck contest looks like at Richmond all too well, so this is refreshing to see.

Apart from that, his aerial marking seems solid and disposals and kicking seem pretty good as well. Doesn't look too bad at ground level either. He probably will take time with endurance (that is important with our gamestyle) but overall I like this pick.
