Tiges are just so far ahead of the comp it just isnt fair any more. Remember when we just drafted smalls and our manic pressure resulted in 3 flags in 4 years? Well the club is giving the finger to the AFL and their future rule changes by recruiting 200cm giants to clunk marks across the ground.

Find it so funny after the last 4 years some supporters still question recruiting decisions our club make. After the success we have had when taking players nobody had heard of previously we really should know by now this club is the best in the business at making every post a winner. Ryan obviously has traits the club feel can make him a successful “Richmond Man” and have pulled the trigger before another club might have. Just get the kid into our system and back him in.

Backing our recruiters in here. They have done a fantastic job in recent years, so have full faith in their ability to not only spot footy talent, but people that fit our culture. We know that we need to shore up our ruck stocks for the future. My only concern is that talls take longer to mature, to be able to contest against the bigger bodied players in the comp, and as he comes from up north, he may get homesick and request a trade back home. That's where our Richmond man ethos will hopefully help us keep him as a tiger. Welcome to Tigerland Samson!
 
This is smart. If Nank goes down we now have cover and dont have to rely on Chol and Balta. We don't have much to lose. He's playing senior footy in the ruck and doing well by the look of it. We could've recruited a 32yo ruck but this seems so much smarter. If he can just compete, it's a win. If he shows a bit, it's a massive win.

I dont think they're looking at him as a project, but as genuine cover for 2021.

It appears the information around him being 203cm come from when he first nominated for the draft so he very well could now be 206cm.

Every year there’s always variations in list heights of players, I’ve seen about every centimetre from 173 to 179 listed for MRJ.
 
Actually looks to be quite a good mark. Not afriad of his size, it seems, which is great.

What I think is most impressive is that he looks to get his hands free to dish off the footy when in trouble and deosn't seem like that slow decision making ruckman who just gets caught holding the ball.

I wonder what his actual ruckwork is like? I feel like that can come later anyway.

Decent risk, I reckon. And, is a Richmond supporter!

He has played across HB and HF, but is Shane Edwards a mid, yes or no?

Well that’s how I rationalise it I spose , I thought callow and a vic county kpp However every club ignored them , which Prob says something , hope the kid at least gets a rookie spot
 
With a name like that and height like that, if he can put on a bit of size (and keep the mullet) this kid has cult hero written all over him. Just imagine the reaction of a full 'G when he soars to clunk a big pack mark on the wing.
 
Hmm, only reason I can see that we took this guy at 40 is that perhaps we knew someone else was gonna grab him.

Gotta be honest, his highlights package on the RFC website does not fill me with much confidence. Looks a little clumsy and goes to ground very, very easy. Will need to work on his size and core strength.

Can take a mark due to his height but he is playing against pretty average players.

Will need a lot of work I think, certainly couldn't walk into the side early next season if he was needed.

Still glad we got him, but I reckon we could have taken the mature age ruck from the WAFL (I think WAFL, whoever the guy is that used to be on the Pies list) late and used 40 on Carroll or Callow.

Ah well, we can't complain, we got MRJ and we're back to back premiers, pretty amazing times :)
