I reckon by the second half of 2023 this guy will be a regular in the team - especially if the rumoured 5th bench spot becomes a reality - means a genuine 2nd ruck can be a real option without affecting midfield rotations.
Started off looking so skinny - always showed good aerial judgement and seemed to get his hands to the ball - but just didn't hold the marks and got easily bumped over by short people.
2022 - Had games where he's played close to 100% game time in the ruck against big experienced rucks and done very well.
Also performing so well in marking contests and I'd be much more confident with him playing forward than Nank or Soldo.

If the AFL goes with 5 on the bench I wonder if teams will do away with the second ruck option ala the Miller role and just go 2 genuine rucks? For example play Nankervis mainly through the start and end of games, give Ryan minutes through middle of the game which gives Nank a break and still have Ryan fresh if Nank gets injured to finish the game.

Has anyone else heard that he’s the Ruck of interest to GWS given his ability to play forward.

Soldo too similar to what they have but Samson a real point of difference. Won’t cost much and is young

Kingsley would know his potential

Isn't he a mad tiger supporter?
Some might say all Tigs are mad. But I’ve followed his VFL career and he has shown glimpses of AFL attribute’s, agression, marking and rucking ability, some forward craft and acurate set shot. He now just needs to learn to make use of his recent weight gains and we now should see some big improvements in 2023 and beyond.

I doubt we'd let him go. I reckon he's one to watch for a breakout year next year. Finished the season really well.

Tiger72 floated the idea during a BigFooty Tigercast that GWS might be interested. Haven't heard or read anything since then.

We lost Coleman-Jones & Chol last year, we simply can't afford to lose him this year. If it were to happen though GWS would be dreaming that it would be like Soldo trade ie a steak knives situation. He is so important to the team come next year, he would constitute a core part of any trade for Hopper and Taranto.

So no imho, he would cost a lot and the club probably told them as much and perhaps that's why we aren't hearing anymore about it.

Oh ok.

He's a hell of a lot quicker than Soldo and that was the preferred setup for most of the season.
Things that are faster than Soldo!

I’ve been a huge wrap for him all year and I agree with you.

Yes. Tiger71 said this repeatedly on the podcast

Mea Culpa. I didn't think he would make it, so I'm impressed with his development - especially his strength and marking. When at Sherwood AFC (Brisbane) was always being pushed aside at the boundary throw-ins, even by players 15-20cm shorter - but won the centre bounces easily. I know Brisbane Lions were very keen on him, but had the same concerns about strength and agility.

The game has shit me to tears this year, with Stand rule, Protective Zones and the resulting 50m penalties. Then when players couldn't even question with arms out.......... Every season these the rules have been relaxed, with varying changes in interpretations as the season moves on. Anyway, haven't watched a lot of VFL this year for reasons above, but as a Qlder really interested to hear how Samson is progressing.

Soldo just asked that you look at this again (below), and remember, the big boy has had just the one season back from rupturing both the ACL AND MEDIAL! Always, always give players a season on the park and another pre-season before writing them off is my golden rule.

I don't usually care about these sort of things, but for him I reckon he should cut his hair. Short back and sides instead of the teenage mop.
short hair is unnatural

if the youngens can grow it why not ? miss my 90s grunge mop

If there is to be a 5th bench player next year Soldo becomes more viable for us.
