"Ole Bombers keep up the fight, we're behind you day and night"
Can not believe the official cheer squad had the audacity to put this on their banner on the weekend. Thought it was just a few random idiots in Mexican hats who had the arrogance to support that aspect of the whole debacle.

and the players ran through it!, seriously, aren't they paying PR companies millions to help protect their name.

Does the cheer squad at our club have full right to put up what ever they want on the banner? You would hope someone at the club would approve the banner before each game.

Simple. Tell all the players that an suspensions from the MRP will be served in the following year. So players can go out an whack as many people as they want, but they will then have two years of nothing to play for.
What happens for players who will retire at the end of the year? Old man Fletcher will coat hanger blues players with those long arms and get chaired off at the end of the season... Yeah nah...

From Bomber and Fox Sports:

On his charge sheet, Thompson said: "Probably 80 per cent of it, 90 per cent of it, easily I’d say there’s no way I’m responsible for that and I’m (not) going to accept that. Easily."
He said he was "partly responsible" for the remainder of the offences, along with other Essendon officials.

Lets re-cap the charge: Bring the game into disrepute under AFL rule 1.6

Can someone enlighten me how you can be 90% innocent under rule 1.6?

Demetriou: Essendon charges will not be delayed

AFL chief Andrew Demetriou says he still expects the charges against Essendon to be heard on Monday, leaving open the possibility that the Bombers could lose premiership points and not play in the finals.
Demetriou also rejected suggestions that the decision to grant the four individuals facing conduct unbecoming charges, including coach James Hird, extra time to defend themselves, amounted to a win for Essendon and a backdown by the league.
"No. It was always our advice that if there was to be a request for more time that we would give more time," Demetriou at the lauch of an AFL-TAC "Wipe off Five" advertising campaign at the MCG on Tuesday.

"We do want people to be able to have their case heard with the right period of time and not deny anyone natural justice."
Essendon is also likely to be granted an extension if it asks for one. But Demetriou said he had no reason to believe "at this stage" that the charges against the club would not be heard by the AFL Commission on the scheduled date.
Asked what the Hird extension meant for Essendon's determination to keep its points, he said: "At this stage the only people who have requested the deferment are the four individuals. As yet, we haven't heard if the Essendon Football Club is asking for the matter to be deferred.

Just heard on sen that Essendon* have also asked for more time...
Seriously, the AFL should tell them to shove their extra time up their wazoo's!

They have had all bloody year to make up lies and excuses.

Time to cop what they have coming!

I actually agree with this, but if the AFL does take the premiership points off them I reckon most of us would want them taken from them next year and not this year. No chance they'll get past week 1 of the finals no matter who they play.
If they want this to continually drag on and spend more on their lawyers then so be it.
We all know what's going to happen when ASADA get a hold of them anyway.

Looks like Essendon have given a new name to the word injunction, they now want a delay in facing the commission, maybe they need to fly to sunny Mexico for some R&R?

It's now gone past the point of no return and I agree that deducting their points this year would be a travesty.

Deduct their points for next year, ban them from this years draft for their unsafe working environment and ban then from the first rounds of the next 2 drafts and if they dont have their entire playing list banned by ASADA, monitor them closely for and inconsistencies in their selection process and if they end up with less than 4 wins for the year, strip their priority pick from them that the AFL would be sure to try and give them.

And now we have this delay to their hearing, prompted very nicely by Fat Vlad, which will undoubtly mean that they will end up playing finals football, which they definitely dont deserve to, thanks to the nice man at AFL house who is looking after their own personal interests (Andy 'Moar Money Please' D).

This whole scenario has turned into a massive farce reminiscent of some of the great comedy farces of the ages.

I agree that it is probably too late to deduct points from the club for this year just at the moment but they should have all benefits gained from performance enhancing drugs struck from their record/history if they are eventually found guilty of this.

This would include relegation to last on the ladder for all to see in the future for the 2012 and 2013 season, stripped of Brownlow's won etc, even if it needs to be done retrospectively or well after the fact.

Then the club can also be inflicted with punishments that will prevent any re occurrence also, loss of future draft picks, play for no points, heavy fines etc.

Give them a week more, then strip them of their points. They don't deserve to be playing finals, and for those of you who are saying "but they're going to lose anyway", then what happens when they start playing well again? It's no coincidence that they've been playing poorly because there seems to be nothing to play for this year, so any good news on that front may just as well lift them. Imagine if they went all the way (very unlikely, but throwing it out there), what a farce that would be. The AFL can't let these drug cheats compromise this year's final series. Essendon may have requested a delay, but the AFL doesn't have to accept it, or delay it just before the finals start.

If you're going to strip their points not to punish them, then do it out of principle. There's always next year's points to strip, and they can end up with two spoons instead of one. But that will really depend on whether the players get banned or not.
