Not sure why people immediately think it's Little footing the bill.

Could be his News Corp CO chum in Robert Tompson.
Not sure why it matters. Little is the obvious choice, but it could be anyone. I don't really keep track of Hird's rich mates and decided to go with the first obvious one that came to mind.

I love this bit of the article...

So according to the judge in this case, St Jimmy was all about protecting himself and not protecting the players when he decided to go the AFL and ASADA over the joint investigation.
I found this a good read, including the paragraph quoted below:
https://sociallitigator.com/2016/05...hirds-loss-against-chubb-suggests-yes-and-no/
He then proceeded to link the issue of show cause notices to the Essendon players with the potential for him to lose income:

One of the reasons was reputation. Another reason was that I feared I wouldn’t have a job because I had been told if the players received show cause notices by the club, that there was a very good chance I wouldn’t have a job and also I wouldn’t have a team to coach because 34 players may not be able to play”

Essendon saga: Here's how much the supplements scandal has cost ... so far

James Hird's latest defeat in court – this time being slugged with a bill for $660,000 – is another chapter in a saga that could eventually cost more than $35 million.

Democracy eh?

This is exactly why I am going to turn this country into a dictatorship and everyone will love it.
I for one welcome our Teddy over-lord.

Thanks for the link, just had a quick read. Seems he did himself in by refusing to reveal all about his interview and texts, no doubt because whatever his hidden in there he wants to remain hidden. oh the sweet smell of karma at work. Just as the players lying by ommission did them in.

And now there is some doubt over whether the AFL will strip Jobe of his Brownlow, with Gil this morning signalling in the way the AFL does when it is fixing something that it "being the hardest decision those making it will make in their lives" means they may just buckle to the EFC News Ltd campaign.

I mean, the CAS finding showed the world what a dodgy bunch of fixers they are and pretty much made them the laughing stock of world sport, so I guess they have nothing to lose there.

I actually dont mind if he keeps it because in many ways that would be a worse look than handing it back. CAS found "good bloke" Jobe to be a liar AND a cheat, and him insisting on keeping a tarnished medal which he won by doping would hardly rehabilitate his reputation or stop the booing if he takes to the field next year.

Clearly what an honourable man would do is give it back, say it belongs to Sam and Cotch, and he was sorry he cheated and stole what should have been their glory, but he didn't mean to, he was duped. The truth will set you free after all.

I'm quite surprised (probably shouldn't be), that at some point during this whole thing, up to and including the part where they were found guilty by CAS, that Jobe and the AFL didn't sit down and set out a plan.
'Hand the medal back voluntarily now, with a big press conference saying that you think it's the right thing to do until all this is sorted, it wasn't your intention to cheat and you don't believe you have, blah blah blah. Then, when and if you're exonerated, we will have another big presser to hand it back and tell everyone how deserving you still are.'
It's proactive, it's damage control and it still leaves it open for him to get it back if they are as innocent as they say. It's got me buggered how all these high paid execs with PR departments can't come up with something as simple as that.

The AFL appears to be positioning itself to allow Jobe to keep his tainted brownlow medal.

If they do that, then whats the point of having a league best and fairest any more.

I would hope that every single player invited to the Brownlow presentation in the future, if Jab is allowed to keep his medal, declines the invite and the actual winners tell them to get ****ed :D

You make a very dangerous assumption there, they may be highly paid it does not mean they are intelligent or ethical in their dealings.

Crazy notion that it should even be up for debate. You lose the brownlow for a bump that gets you suspended, yet being caught doping yourself with prohibited drugs into the most purple patch of form in your career demands a hearing and a tough decision that could go either way? The AFL are beyond any rational understanding except that dodgy agendas and financial bottom lines drive everything they do at the expense of fair and accountable process.

I can only think that the AFL are giving Jobe as much chance as they can to hand it back, but he doesn't want to make it that easy for them.

nah, they are just waiting until the appeal.

no point taking it away, only to give it back if they are successful on appeal. so just waiting until the whole caboodle is sorted.

Jab should be stripped of the Brownlow.

It's up to the AFL to grow some kahunas and not say this maybe one of the hardest decisions they have to make.

Really AFL FFS!

I don't know what growing a wise man or (another) important person is going to do to help the AFL make a hard decision that requires cahones...
