thing i love about him is how clear he cares about defending his man. So many of our players zoned off or let their man get clear easily last year, whereas with him he stuck to his man like glue. might not get many touches but as long as he stops his man, can definitely see him locking down a place in the pocket in the future.

Yep, isn't blessed with huge raw ability but has enough to make it as a player. Is blessed with elite traits though: work ethic, committment and willingness to play his role.

For every Jaidyn you need a Jackson.

His dad was never the most gifted player but always gave 100% and wore his opponent like a glove.I can see a lot of Archer senior in his son.

This comes up a bit and I always argue that Glenn Archer was a very talented player. He just happened to have a very hard and courageous aspect to his game that distracted from him.

A player who took screamers, kicked bicycle kick goals, had bags of 5 and 6 in games yet won a Norm Smith as a defender isn't just some blue collar scrapper.

100% his ability is underrated because of his toughness.

Yes I agree Archer had talent or he wouldn't have played over 300 games. What I am saying is his work ethic, commitment and courage are what made him the player he became.Same with Dani Laidley had skill but their other aspects of the game made them better players.

I’ve been arguably his biggest critic and still remain that somewhat. There were probably 200 kids that deserved to get drafted ahead of him last year.

However you have to tip your cap sometimes.

I watched his first week last year and he was throwing up after about 10 minutes of the first few sessions, was close to dead last in most of the running.

I’m not sure if his ability to then transform into the time trial winner 12 months later is a good reflection on the group as a whole tbh. But all credit to Archer.

I’ve still got some major reservations about his skill level however.

But he’s earned the right to an open mind this season.

And the fact he played most of his footy in the backline, Denis especially would not have appreciated graceful flair from his defenders.

Was it Denis who said about why they recruited him or someone else?

“Went down to Noble Park and saw this young bloke taking hangers and belting blokes so I had to recruit him”

* you say some weird things sometimes and this is right up there

like this is just absolutely ******* ludicrous

Not really.

There’s around 160 kids invited to national and state combines, then you have those around the state leagues and the rest left over. About 900 nominate for the draft each year.

Jackson is going much better than I anticipated, but he probably wasn’t in the best 10 kids in his average Northern Knights side and wasn’t close to a representative side training squad and they run off pretty big supplementary lists.

Cooper was in the best few for his Knights side and made the Vic Metro squad.

Bailey Scott was an U/18 AA, captain of his state side and went at a similar pick range to Jackson.

'Hopefully he proves me wrong'

Well said.

I wasn't - and remain - 100% sold still on his long term prospects, similar to many of our young kids, but he has done everything right, has worked his arse off and most importantly when given the opportunity he delivered exactly what was asked if not more. Can it continue? I don't know but he is earning his spot at the moment and I have quite a bit of respect for him, he's moving out of the shadow of his dad and even if he has a 10th of the career he's doing himself and his family a massive credit at the moment.
