Has played multiple different roles in the last 3-4 weeks in the VFL, mostly off half back and has excelled.
I think he would make it as a very good defensive small forward who can kick a goal.

Who would you add to TT, Greenwood, Taylor getting cut? Nyuon? Stevo? CCJ? Harvey? No issue with giving him another year.
Have you watched him play? You can't question his running capacity. Repeat efforts and supreme conditioning on display in the last quarter on the weekend. Plenty wrote off Xerri this time last year, despite his great VFL form.Well for someone with a great running ability he doesn't have much impact at AFL level. He should be able to get from contest to contest, that was his supposed strength in his draft year, gets nowhere near it.
He's improved massively over the last two seasons, running capacity, cleaner and his disposal, also worked on other roles in the two's. If he can improve again next season there's no reason why he can't be a good player at league level.Maybe he just needs to get really really strong? I all but rode him off game 2, but he can find the ball in the vfl with ease and can run. It’s a ****ing annoying one
Yes I have at both levels. I didn't question his running capacity, its all great to run all day but if you can't get anywhere near the ball or contest at AFL level then a whole lot of good that does you. It's like a headless chook running around.Have you watched him play? You can't question his running capacity. Repeat efforts and supreme conditioning on display in the last quarter on the weekend. But on what areas? VFL seems fine, afl application? He's improved massively over the last two seasons, running capacity, cleaner and his disposal, also worked on other roles in the two's. If he can improve again next season there's no reason why he can't be a good player at league level.
The combine tests were four or five years ago. There's no AFL watchers that would suggest that a current strength of Phillips is his pace. It is most definitely a strength of Charlie's. He can spread from the contest and get involved in chains of possessions.Yes I have at both levels. He's a very good VFL player but he hasn't had a real impact at AFL level apart from that Suns game.
20m sprint test was 3.10 secs (Will 2.91). Charlie's not overly quick, better endurance and great agility testing though.
He'd need to be a Matt Priddis at AFL level who can get to as many contests as possible. I haven't seen that.
I would've though even as a half forward he could've applied more tackles but his speed may be an issue.
People were saying the same of X this time last year. I'm not saying he's a certainty but the improvement and dedication warrant another year over some on the list. But on what areas? VFL seems fine, afl application?
Unfortunately for laz everyone else bar sleevo ccj and biggy who dont compete for similar positions have improved as well making it harder for him to crack the ones. He's improved massively over the last two seasons, running capacity, cleaner and his disposal, also worked on other roles in the two's. Got a good footy brain, is hard at it and definitely can run a game out.Would read like to see him play in a lock down/run with role before he’s cut.
Can he be trued as a small defender - would go in harder than fisher or sleevoWould read like to see him play in a lock down/run with role before he’s cut.

Its a depthless list that keeps him on it, we are still a few uears away from having the picks to see off a lot of the journeymen like laz.I think what keeps him on the list is his character. Like Archer, seems like a guy who's genuinely going to try and get the best out of himself. He's improved some aspect of his game every year. His career thus far reminds me of Levi Greenwood, hasn't really had the opportunity to play the role he excels at at VFL level.
Well as I said Will might have been stuffed by the glandular. It still shows that Charlie isn't quick, good endurance runner. The combine tests were four or five years ago. Lacked the draft pick.Gave himself every chance. Just lacked the tools.
I like him as a VFL watcher, and I watch a bit, but doesn’t quite have it for the step up. You are right, would have been given more opportunity if a higher pick or in a better team.Lacked the draft pick.
Faster than Phillips and Powell and way more accountable than both. Better gut runner. Knows the structures better. And when confident his disposal is almost as good. Oh and he actually performs when sent back to the VFL as well.
Fact or opinion?Gone.
