I think these are the sort of deals that might open up for us.

Not sure where two thousand millimetre Peter fits into our team because he would be sitting behind others as matters stand, but he is too good not to be playing AFL footy. You could see a club like the Swans having a good crack for him. Lions as well.
Swans pies lions so many clubs would and should go after him I reckon

Im a Broad fan and love what he brings but am a realist and if he gets a good offer to leave i wouldnt hold that against him and wish him luck

Garthwaite was coming along well and looks to be also in demand but has been injured , I coul see Gath taking up Grimes role and that allows Grimes to become the general in the backline.

I hope you're right. I just don't see Garth ever making it.

Good question. I don’t. Would love him to stay. But can you see a scenario where Crows don’t come and offer him 3 x $400k or so and a likely forward ruck relief spot in the AFL team? To return to his home state....and we maybe offer 2 x $300 tops and may still be in the queue...I am just joining the dots, but would love him to stay at Tigerland. Best way to achieve that right now would be Jack deciding to retire I think. I don’t think that is likely and not even sure it is desirable. Some players you are just going to lose and if you are forced into losing a good one, then it is a matter of making the most of it, thus my post. I would be trying to hold on to all four players mentioned by the way, but pure football economics may not allow this.
I'd rather we let Nankervis go and keep Soldo as our #1 ruck with CCJ as back up and KPF.

Broad is 27 and Garth is 22. Pretty similar in size. Confident Garth could come in and do a similar role to the one Broad is doing.

I do often forget he is only 22

The good news is CJ is contracted for next year. He'll be worth more then if he's as good as we think.
True however , I’m almost certain he will have itchy feet following this year with nil senior games unless he is suddenly parachuted into the side and I expect we will be tempted by offers. The way I see it , one of nank or CCJ splits . I actually want us to re sign nank

Question for you....if you were Coleman-Jones and you had this choice:

1. Back-up ruck and KPF at Tigers on a 2 year deal worth maybe $300k tops, or

2. Go home to Adelaide on a decent deal like 3-4 years at $400k or more with probably gettable further incentives to be part of what could be an exciting time rebuilding with high draft picks under a very promising coach, and walk straight into your preferred role, starting KPF and relief ruck.

Which would you prefer? Of course we could hold CCJ to his contract and at the end of that we might be really struggling to retain him next year, OR we can potentially get a good pick in a year earlier and get a head start on developing one of our next great hopes if Crows coughed up say pick 10 for him and Graham.

I am not saying my preference would be to have pick 10 rather than those two players. But I am saying my preference would be to get pick 10 in this year rather than an equivalent pick a year later when the inevitable happens. I am sure Crows would also like to get on with things as early as possible as well.

I am just trying to read the situation. In an ideal world we keep all of our desirable players and offload only players who are expendable, but we don’t operate in an ideal world. It is a multi-faceted marketplace, part of which is the player is more than a dumb commodity. He is a person with aspirations and is entitled to try to make the best decision for himself. I would love to hold this bloke but I will be pleasantly surprised if we do.

Broad has made it because he is 193cm and quick which is such a good trait to have at that size. Garth isn't quick but could take perhaps bigger types.

Whenever we've played Kmac in defence he becomes a turnover merchant under pressure. As he's showing now, out on the wing he's a long striding asset. He's a winger. He needs room to get I to his moves and runs his opponent off their legs.

It's the same when some here call for Vlaus to go into the middle. Whenever we've tried that he's shown he's not up to it. He's a defender pure and simple. Playing dudes out of position always gets us into trouble.
Who's the backline IF Broad left?

I don’t think Broady had a lot of friends early doors . He’s on the TPP strata that are always most vulnerable to leave good performing sides , seen as a staunch role player and paid like one ,at other clubs he may assume a key defensive role and be paid like it , It’ would be conceivable he’s offered say + 150 a year over what he’s paid now over 3y at 27yo that would be mighty hard to pass up unless he’s suddenly a diehard Melbournian
I reckon we could get a pick 25-30 in return or player . And I wouldn’t dismiss Garth from doing what Broady does , prob less agile than Broady though

Broady was playing wafl at same age , he’s a very good role player , not quick but not slow. Is versatile can play on mediums and talls. We need to invest in defenders , astbury and grimes both getting on too
I’d like to see Garth have a crack without having to play FB

Sorry buddy, we have to agree to disagree. Broad is super quick for a guy whose 6ft 3”. He rolls at over 80% DE and can dispose of the ball either side of his body. We have Eggs and Balta now in defence. I’m sure we will be looking around, but, Garth is nowhere. 5 years on the list. He’s depth/trade/delist material. Garth aint the future.

Problem is Garth hasn't had a fair crack at it tho to say that last year he got 3 games playing on monster forwards to and Dave and Rance were both out.I like him his not going to be Rance or Balta , but someone gets the job done.

Garth has had opportunities. He hasn’t taken them like others have. He’s a reserve grade foootballer.

Rock solid, safe, courageous, hard and ultra reliable. Would love to have him on our list for another few years but he's at the age and status if some other team offers an extra 100k+ per year for the next 4-5 years hed have to seriously consider it. Not ultra marketable and doesn't strike me as a coaching type so not sure hed have huge footy industry opportunities after retirement.

Seems like one wed look after too and possibly trade for unders to get him to where he wants. We seem to do that a lot with our players.

Garth is in his 4th year on the list this season.

His first year was the 2017 premiership season where he didn’t get a look in.

His second season was 2018 when we finished top and he played two games and did fine all things considered.

His third season he was badly hampered by not getting in a pre season. As he was coming back looking to run into form and fitness at VFL level, in short order we lose Rance for the season then Grimes cops a week and with no other viable option he gets thrust underdone into a match against the Giants and gets isolated on Jeremy Cameron and it didn’t go well for him. They sent him down to the VFL team to gain fitness but he was always playing catchup fitness wise and by now has had his reputation and confidence destroyed. After running into some sort of form after 3-4 weeks he was reinstated to the team and with the now full backline in place bar Rance he did ok v Freo but he noticeably tired in this game. Then Astbury gets injured and he is again thrust into roles that would probably be beyond him after a full pre-season. He was only playing AFL from then out of absolute necessity and I would just forget these games when assessing him.

Then this season of course there is no VFL, we start getting some injuries again and just when he could have come in for a game, he gets a groin. It is imo really difficult to say authoritatively this bloke is not an AFL footballer. I don’t think any of us think he is likely to be a world beater but there is every chance he could be a reasonable role player yet.

I think the club will want to retain him.
