Boomer plays his 350th this week.

Where does he stand in the great scheme of footy?

For mine, obviously, one of the all time greats, albeit certainly not in the level of the Carey/Matthews/Ablett Snr types.

Career stands comfortably along with the next rung down though: Voss, Hird, Buckley, Ricciouto.

All the more impressive given his stature.

Thoughts?

disagree with that assessment, nowhere near the quartet mentioned in the OP, nor is he one of the all-time greats, despite his longevity and ability.

Agree with you he is clearly and certainly a rung below those players mentioned in the OP. DawOfPromotion is overinflating his ability like Essendon fans overinflate Fletcher's ability when comparing him to the best backs ever.

Lots of people dislike him.

IMO he is criminally underrated.

My thoughts on this aren't popular but I don't care. Boomer Harvey is a superstar and has been for a very long time.

Wish he played for the Hawks. He can do it all and unlike a lot of star midfielders, he has always been elite around the big sticks.

Champion. Congrats on the milestone Boomer :thumbsu:

To be honest Harvey has never concerned me when the Swans come up against North Melbourne. I am not sure if it is true but I get the impression that if you put a hard tag on Harvey he often has trouble performing.

Not even close.

Boomer has been an excellent player over his career and should be a legend for North Melbourne. I wouldn't say he is a legend of the AFL like the four Brownlow medalists you just named however.

an absolute champion who is underrated by others who dont see how consistant he is. for me, stands along side players like wanganeen. ill say hes got around 2-3 years left in him, just in time to sneak in another premiership

He is a champion of North for sure, but not an all time great ala the players mentioned in the OP.

agreed, OP set Boomer up for some harsh comments by comparing him to 4 of the best players of their era.

Harvey is not at that level, but has been a club champion and has been a very very good player over a very long career.

Premiership player, EJ Whitten medallist, 4 time All Australian, captained his country, 5 time best and fairest, runner up Brownlow.

Certainly deserves to be considered in that company. Would be no argument if he'd won a Brownlow.

great career by boomer respect the hell out of the little man when i think of north its of him carey and archer also as said on the footy show last night should be comended for being a one club player and not jumping ship hope they have a big win for him

I wouldn't say hes at the level of hird, buckley voss. Id put him slightly below with the likes of Brad Johnson, Shane Crawford and Ben Cousins

I'd have Cousins at the Hird, Buckley, Voss level.

Quality player, but not a great when compared to say Ricciutto or Voss or Hird.

I'd have him more at the Tyson Edwards, Scott West level

However achieving 350 games is a "great" milestone.

I had the privilege of staying around and applauding Robert Harvey for his 350th - in this modern age it is quite the effort and he deserves every plaudit.

How would North fans compare him with Archer?

Better pure footballer than Archer for sure. If you could marry Archer's leadership (something Boomer has at times lacked) to Boomer's skills you would have had an awesome player.
