A great player no doubt about it, but time's up. Geelong will get sentimental about it all, but he needs to retire immediately. He's well and truly cooked, as are al of others at Geelong

Sorry I went to check. 46+, 12 seasons straight.
I guess that makes your opinion right and my opinion wrong.

You throw Hawkins back in time in his peak he would easily kick 100+ goals a season (in the 80's and 90's)
The same applies to Kennedy, Franklin and Riewoldt - they'd kick a lot more goals in the 1980s and 1990s as well.
This was a table made for Buddy's 1000th goal but it is still relevant here

Buddy Franklin is a footy outlier and here's the data that proves it
An analysis of Lance Franklin's goal kicking reveals how he stacks up against the thousands of other players who have take the field in league football's history.www.abc.net.au
Hawkins has kicked another 70 or so goals since then though, so adjusted he could be close to 900 goals now.
Hawkins is more like the Dunstall/Lockett type of forward though. I reckon he'd have been huge if he played in the 90s. Kennedy maybe too. Jack & Buddy were more suited to the modern gameI agree. The same applies to Kennedy, Franklin and Riewoldt - they'd kick a lot more goals in the Lockett/Dunstall era. Just how many is anyone's guess.
He’ll accidentally post in the wrong No Opposition forum again soon

With how he is currently going, he might have to play every game till the end of next season to pass Richo on the goal kicking list.
His record is amazing, no argument. I guess from an outside perspective Geelong has had some real stars during Hawkins tenure so there hasn't been the frenzied media attention on him that you get with other similar key forwards. He seems to be a pretty unassuming guy as well.
Did Tom pull up a bit sore during the game, probably final few minutes of the final quarter? Or is he ok?
Yeah didn’t look good at all, read something earlier that he had foot surgery during the pre season or somethingThat foot injury looked like something just snapped/popped under him. Doesn't seem like something you get back from in a couple of weeks.
Will get a farewell game in sleepy hollow even on one leg though
Hawkins standing somewhat depends on how you value longevity. Has played the most games out of any tall forward in the top 100 all-time goals list but career stats get massively inflated due to tenure. Per-game averages aren't overly compelling.
For me, he is not in the Lockett, Dunstall, Ablett snr god tier. He's also not in the next tier either with Lloyd, Richardson, Carey.
Jack Riewoldt & Jarryd Roughead are very relevant comparisons. One-club players with long tenure. Multiple flags. Some individual recognition. But never considered the best player on their team or anywhere near it.
Probably makes the Hall of Fame but is likely to be forgotten about post-retirement. I doubt there will ever be a Hawkins stand at Kardinia Park.
