Player Watch #36: Kozzy Pickett – stacking up with the best after 100 games

I’m less worried now.Goodwin saying that we are in frequent discussion with Pickett’s management is positive. If he had decided to go those talks would stop. He also suggested it would likely be done soon. All sounds good to me. Goodwin has a decent line in general ambiguity when needed. I feel as though he would be side stepping questions if he didn’t know Kos will stay

Yeah the language around Jackson was much more negative last year tbh

I’d did sound to me as though things are at a dotting tees and crossing eyes stage.

God I hope I’m right. It would be really deflating to lose him. Round one this year and about 5 times watching Kos and thought this is why its important to get along to games when you can. Hes one of a kind too. No point looking for a like-for-like in his place

He's stagnated this year imo. I still reckon he has potential star qualities but I've got my doubts as to his consistency.

He's young, end of.
Trac wasn't much chop for a while either. I'd way rather Butters than pick 10 or whatever would come for Pickett

Was it? I seem to remember it being the same, in frequent conversations with Jackson's management until around June/July when we said we'll worry about it at the end of the season

From March 29 last year.
“We’ve had some really good discussions with Luke about his contract and his position at our club moving forward,” said Goodwin.

“One thing I know about Luke is that he loves his teammates and he loves his footy club. We are really comfortable where [contract discussions] sit with him,” he said. “He will get paid what he deserves over time - like any player does in our industry.”
Yesterday:
"We've been in constant communication with Koz and his management team," Goodwin told reporters on Thursday.

"He's a pretty important player for us as a footy club and we love him, and he loves this footy club.

"We're hopeful that it's going to get done fairly soon. We think it's in a great spot moving forward.

Slight change in language but the key difference is the first article came right after it was reported he put contract talks on hold and the second came a few days after it was reported we were preparing to make another pitch to Pickett's management. A few journos have also said that the language coming out of the club is different than last year.

Imo it will happen in the next month or not at all.

Yeah I'd say the main difference is alot of journos we're going with the Jackson to WA stories most of the year and specifically to Freo. Not much noise about Pickett leaving outside Port would want him

It'd be embarrassing if we lost him

Yeah I saw something about his management wanting to look at things around rounds 4-6 to just see how the season was playing out. Reckon they were hoping he'd have a hot start and they could push his price up but getting suspended didn't help.

He's young ish ... but hardly a baby anymore.

You do love your Port midfielders tho

He's 22 for the season, hes young and he has more talent than the majority of people in the AFL

Kade Chandler's older than him. Butters could be anything

He could be. But he's also not kicked on this year so far like most people expected him to be.

I still like him as a player and rate his potential but I'm less all-in on him becoming a star now than I was a month or so ago.

Tracs also had a crap 3 games you wouldn't write him off besides even if he doesn't become a star, he is still gonna be a super dangerous mid forward.

That's Kade "KADE CHANDLER" Chandler to you. :thumbsupv1:

I really wish people would call Kade Chandler by his actual name and not his nickname Kade Chandler. Its very confusing sometimes.

Hate it when people stuff up his name. Anyway my favourite Kade Chandler performance was as Eric Taylor in Friday Night Lights.

Yeah agree with this. Clearly the club is confident they can get the contract signed soon, we didn’t hear that with Jackson at all last year. If he puts off talks and/or signed by r10 he’s gone.

The most eyebrow-raising quote in there is about Luke getting the pay he deserves over time. Reading between the lines sounds like his managers were asking us to match Freo's offer and we weren't prepared to budge. Pretty good list management in hindsight.

Does Headless deliberately land here with surrealism to head off Topkent in a circular argument?

It almost works. Also, I tagged you Kent so don’t start that

Yeah I hadn’t heard that, or noticed it, before.

I do get the impression Luke isn’t super bright (though his ideas on intergalactic colonisation are creative). His managers seems to have said this is the price and we’re not budging. From then he was going.
