There’s ways around it, you isolate the senior squad from the jnrs, you put a whole heap more effort into the jnrs, senior players who ain’t going to try, you let them play out the year and ruthlessly cut or trade them for chips at the end of the year.
Ruthless cutting doesn't work, because then the cupboard becomes bare and you're left scrambling to find anyone with four limbs and a frontal lobe to put on the jumper each week. Agree that the juniors who actually appreciate the opportunity to play at the level should be given extra attention/isolated treatment though.

I think for me right now the great white hope is that Clarko returns with a renewed focus on the footy side of things and actually unleashes some of his wrath on those who need it. He's seen some of the shit we've dished up this year. If he's truly better, he'll let them ****ing know that if standards don't lift, personal punishments and VFL demotions may be in order. It's a ****ing disgrace that we've gotten to this point. I feel terrible for Harry and George in particular

Ruthlessly cutting before ready is devastating yes, I was saying the opposite, basically fast track a bunch of the kids together, let them play in their preferred positions in the vfl build symmetry but at the end of the day, let them know in six months time, you're it, it’s almost got to that stage with Bergman, Goater.

The goal should be to win the vfl cup this year.

Was legitimately the only player on our list who I saw outwardly show some fire and passion in the 4th quarter.

Not sure if it showed on the broadcast but he kept getting stuck into Hawks players.

Loved to see it.

Season over for Cooper

As for Harvey, his rookie season has finished early after going under the knife earlier this week.

"Cooper had a couple of minor subluxation (partial dislocation) incidents over the past two weeks which led to some follow-up investigation imaging which showed chronic changes to the shoulder joint," White detailed.

"Given the ease of these incidents occurring and the imaging assessments by club doctors and surgical experts, the club put Cooper in for shoulder surgery which successfully took place Monday.

"This will give Cooper greater stability to that structure when he recovers and will enable him to get a strong base of running conditioning in across early pre-season."

Be lucky to play 50 games.

Made to look great in his first game because Oisin Mullins has no idea how to position his body in a contested marking situation.

But Cooper is just too slow and/or not big enough for his size and position.

If you put his footy brain/ability in Mullins body you'd have the next Bont though

It was more an observation against other sides that are somewhat successful.
He went late due to not having a position as such.
Fair enough. I still see a bit to work with. Needs to get fitter though obviously. He's probably only ever going to be a small forward as not sure he has the same zip as his old man, but time will tell I guess on that.

Not fast enough, good grab for his size. One of a bunch of players that will need to find a way to become an athletic weapon to have a chance at AFL level and make the most of his footy brain and neat skills.

The enigma. Some talent but seems to have won the hearts of almost nobody on here.
might have something to do with the fact that in his draft class, he's sandwiched between sheezel, wardlaw and george on one side and now mckercher and duursma on the other. Tough to be just a good solid player in that young group

Think it's as much to do with the fact, he has a lot of competition for the mid-sized forward slots. Going to be a challenge for him to get a game, but he definitely showed promise on debut.

I am an almost fan of him and he is still very young/raw. At absolute worst, I think he will be an extremely solid contributor once he builds his tank.

Positives include:
  • A number of mini-bags in the VFL last season.
  • Decent contested mark.
  • Doesn't look slow (doesn't look fast either).
  • Generally uses it well
  • Good footy IQ
  • Generally a good finisher around goals.
  • Good at the contested footy and goes when he needs to.

Negatives/Roadblocks to overcome/Areas to work on:
  • Limited tank (a likely factor contributing to many of his other weaker areas)
  • Questionable levels of defensive intent.
  • High competition for spots in his position.
  • Questionable consistency and involvement across all four quarters.
  • Generally not a high disposal winner.
