Past #38: Josh Gibson - officially traded to Hawthorn for picks 25 & 41 in the 2009 draft

When are some people going to wake up?

The Hay trade at the time made sense. Hindsight is great as a back up but it's not exactly relevant.

In any case, they don't really have anything we want that they'd be prepared to part with so I'd be looking elsewhere. Their borderline/fringe players are ordinary.

I don't accept that at all. Jonathon's ability to play was widely debated at the time and Hawthorn folk tell me they were almost wetting their pants at the deal knowing he had some hurdles to overcome. We fell in hook, line and sinker and were conned all the way through. F*#k Hawthorn now - I wouldn't give them a cracker unless it was a deal heavily weighted in our favour. Gibbo for pick 9? Sure. We win.

The Hawks are interested in everybody.
They can stick pick 9 up their a$$

Gibbo's not going anywhere, he's staying at North.

Amazing how people want him to move.

Move on people.

End of story.

Yes, and the same Hale who signed a multi-year contract for good money (and I assume Gibbo is contracted too).

So you think Hawks are keen to do a deal on their hottest young property? Three years before his contract runs out. Ridiculous in the extreme.

Doing a deal on Hale is going to be very difficult.

Keep gibbo ffs, he was showing great form towards the end of the season, he is the mainstay to our ever so promising backline, i wonder if we'll keep spud firrito with no disrespect to him i really cant see where he would fit in with our best 22, hawthorn need another ruckman they can have buddy hale- done.

Looking at the quoted comments from DarwinRoo in this and another thread, I am sensing he is going through menopause.

If they offer Pick 9 for Gibson. Do it. FFS do it. And I rate Gibson, but do it.

Not for Gibson and Hale.

Hale is going to pay handsome dividends when GC gets in, we'll rape them. Hang on to Hale FFS.

Yep. Have a look at some of the trades for ruckmen in the past few years. If history is anything to go by, and if Hale gets his shit together next year somewhat, we could get quite a bit for him.

G'day RB,
Agree with everything on Gibbo...... and even Spud if we can get the right deal but Hale should go.
Gibbo for pick 9...do it now
Gibbo and Hale for pick 9-no effing way
Hale for a 1st rounder or decent quality midfielder like Pearce(IMO)...Done
Spud(see Hale)

If we trade Gibson (and i'm not at all sold on the idea), then Obst would have to be retained purely for depth.
I keep forgetting about Luke Delaney. We have truly phenomenal KP defensive options. I am expecting big things from him. I think Obst is gone.

Don't believe everything you hear. We are this years Carlton or Collingwood 'Apparently' interested in everyone. no Doubt we've enquired, but is that "We'll put picks 9 and 25 on the table", or simply "Any chance for Gibson??".

I like him, and wouldn't mind him at the Hawks, but I doubt this will get done as much like every year, Trade week will be a non-event

We do have Delaney.

At the start of the year posters where saying Delaney was a monetser and would be good for us in the backline; lets hope he can get over his injury(s) and get a pre-season into him and get a chance in the seniors next year.

Our backline is coming along fine, if we can snag a good young midfielder or 2 in this draft then we only have to get the forward line operating well and i think we are in good shape!

Contracts mean little when it comes to trading.

I don't think they will be jumping out of their seats to get rid of Rioli, but their structural weaknesses are obvious, and we'd be able fill those holes where we have depth. Hale and Gibbo may not be in the same class as Rioli, but they are quality players. Hale may have had a poor year but people tend to forget how good he can play... especially if delivery to the forward line is above mediocre. If you threw in a draft pick (or upgrade) then they may get interested.

For the record I'm happy to keep both Hale and Gibbo and don't want to trade them for draft picks.

Huh... how odd. A thoughtful (and correct) post from a Hawks fan.

;)

i couldnt stand seeing gibbo running around in a gold & brown jumper and any other colors i might add. Have to keep him, scotty and narni may be the future of our backline but gibbo is still our best defender and hasnt been playing bad through the middle either. Keep Him Brad Scott!!

Gibbo would be safer in the shower at the Hawks, would have a handful of guys in close vacinity to catch him if he falls.
If Gibbo didn't play well round 22 would it have made a difference in opinion?
Kicking the ball backwards would be great to get into the Hawks.

Thompson
Grima
Hansen
Delaney
Gibbo
Obst

Pratt
Firrito
JWS
McMahon
Harding
Urquhart
Rawlings?
Lower
Greenwood

Recruiting another sizeable forward with pick 9 or 20 like a Panos would allow 1 of Petrie/Tarrant to go back if injuries cruel the defence.

Gibbo/Thomas for pick 9 and their 4th rounder? The added bonus of giving them the "sprinkler" to fall them at the final hurdle.

Gibbo/Hale for pick 9 and ?

Gibbo had an outstanding year in the backline. He is a very good player, great to watch and seems like a great clubman.

But I would trade him for either 9 or 25. It is obvious he is going to be pushed out of our 22 given the rise of Grima, Thompson and Hansen.

Cash in. Pick 9 would be a dream but Gibbo would be a perfect fit for the gaping hole the Hawkies call a defence, so you never know. Should definitely be the negotiation starting point.

Talk of then ontrading for Pearce is just ****ing stupid.
Hale & Gibbo for pick 9 is giving up too much.

****'em they are the ones who are interested. So if they want him they can pay over the odds. Pick 9 or rack off!

We hold the upper hand in this situation and if they want Gibbo, the deal would have to be in our favour. If they don't want to part with pick 9, then go look for someone else. More than happy for Gibbo to play his career out at North.

Pick 9 might land us a player like Salopek? Maybe pick 9 and Lindsay Thomas for Pearce and Salopek.

Im with ya mate fu..k em they want him they can give us something decent pick 9 or piss off - hawthorn have put pick 9 on the table so if they offer it we should take it and recruit 2 gun midfielders. They will make the right call - rapt with the initial delistings - there will be more to come - expect jones to be traded as well.
