Jim Stynes says hi!I think he's going to be one of the prototype rucks of the future. Future rucks are not going to be dinosaurs, they are going to be mobile ball winners, who have the flexibility to drop back or go forward. Ruckmen need to be link up players and Sims has proven to be a great mark with a huge vertical leap and speed across the ground.
When we first too him and he was listed as a tall forward, I was confused, but given he was played exclusively in the ruck for the second part of the year and showed a huge amount of promise, he seems perfect for us. We don't need a lumbering ruck who can't jump; we need someone we can develop into a player to feed our midfield, shore up our defense and kick the odd goal. In other words, we need flexibility and athleticism and Sims has that in spades.
NahSo he was sick for about a week or so.
Going to have a strong VFL forward line.In taking a kid like him then i would assume we are looking for a similar set up to what Fremantle do.
Two young key forwards Treacy and Amiss, Ruck forward Jackson and ruckman Darcy.
With us it would be down the track two of Armstrong, Fawcett, Faull, ruck forward Sims ruckman Ryan.

Yep, totally can see the ceiling is huge for a guy this skillful and athletic with such a huge frameWent back and rewatched that metro vs country game.
In that game Armstrong kicked 5 opportunistic and skillful goals but the tall that had the most presence on the ground was Simms. Anytime the ball went near him he was so ominous launching at the ball stretching for marks at the highest points (clear AFL trait).
Country had to send multiple defenders into packs to stop him marking the ball which created goals for others.
I totally understand why we held this pick. Very Lynch esque traits up forward with his size and presence. Excited by this pick more and more. Equal with Armstrong for mine for upside.
So going by that you would call him a good kpf with adequate ruck traits to be second ruck. im all good with that.Went back and rewatched that metro vs country game.

I really worry about the so called Ruck forwards because what happens too often is okay ruck, okay fwd but not really great with either. Samson Ryan to date or Coleman - Jones come straight to mind and boy have we been bitten by others in this. McBean Elton Griffiths Vickery and others over the years, yep im gun shy.
If we are drafting a key forward don't hedge the bet get a freakin key forward. If its a ruckman get the genuine ruckman but be good in the primary role.
Im being honest here i have only seen what most others have with this kid and there is a lot to like based on limited knowledge. What im hoping for is real good in one of the roles and adequate in the other.
I will say though he looks ready to go size wise, he does have good athleticism and if his testing is spot on he was worthy of where we took him.
Do you think he would be okay to play round one. Big ask i know but he is a good size already. He's definitely more of a forward with solid ruck skills. I think it would be a waste to develop him as a ruck given his traits can be a difference maker up forward but less so in the ruck (unless he grows).
In the SA vs Metro game he went up against Dodson for a number ruck of contests and I thought he did okay but got outpointed in a few duels. He tried to out jump him but wasn't big enough.

If we played him round one then would you give him a go at second ruck against a second ruck.
Kid has lovely hands
