but it probably mean sacrificing the game of the other two mids to create space and block for him

You straight up just can't do that these days at this level. He either works his butt off to get fitter and start hurting them around the ground or he'll continue getting worked out. Or he gets selfless, helps his teammates flourish, and he'll see the attention drop off.

The treatment he cops is no worse than what our defensive mid (usually Wardlaw) dishes out to others.

I don’t know if Luke has the smarts/selflessness to do that sort of role.

He would be thinking I just need to try harder to be faster and powerful darting towards the ball.

If we set up right, we could help Luke more to use his strengths, but it probably mean sacrificing the game of the other two mids to create space and block for him. Also we don’t have the side inside to do that at present.
If our other two mids block for Luke then the opposition have free players at the centre bounce - we will get slaughtered. If he is being scragged then he needs to use that to the team's advantage. He should be being coached how to do this, but it requires selflessness from him.

Look, I don’t know if he is good enough to work within a tag like great mids do…I sure hope learns how to…and quickly!

I’m not advocating for this at all. My point is that unless LDU works harder or smarter, then we are committed to making Luke the primary offensive mid. So far, that has been pretty disastrous from a team-perspective.

The hack kicks out of the ruck are suicidal.
It worked once and we got a goal out of it.

The argument around his contested work and his tackle counts is based upon literal stupidity.

Simply ask yourselves this.
If he has 7 tackles to half time it means our midfielders ARE NOT IN POSSESSION OF THE FOOTBALL.

I don’t want to see a high tackle or clearance count.

Sinclair and Windhager are going to have career games.
Anyways 4 more years

another terrible contract! they are stacking up

F*** me. We get it, you don't rate him. How many times are you going to say it?

He was very good today. Feel free to deny it.
Ohh poor X is being critiqued. F*** off with this loser mentality

I don’t need your permission for shit. Until he improves or is replaced he’s fair game.
If he was very good today you are basing it off nothing but SuperCoach stats and sentiment.

I was at the game and for awhile early in the second quarter we were being smashed around the ground. The ONLY player breaking even (at least) was X.

I assume those criticising his ruck work are looking at the TV rather than at the game. He probably had the better of his opponents on the day!

He looks as clumsy as a cow with a cup of tea at times but he undeniably has an absolute crack at both man and ball. I don't think his tap work is great but neither is it as bad as some might portray. It does look like he's trying to mix up his taps more and hasn't grabbed it straight out of the ruck as much over the last few weeks.
X still doesn't make my list of the Top 30 Problems that North is facing.
His overhead marking has been shite this year. This is an area that definitely needs improvement.

Mate, he is the ONLY player who has cracked in a at least broken even in each match. Wtf are you expecting? Natanui taps AND the 10 tackles/20 pressure acts he is bringing each game?

He is protecting the midfield with his play. Think about how bullied our mids would be if we still had Goldie. And I loved Goldie.

Say what you like about X's game today, but imo, he totally pawned a very highly ranked opponent in Rowan Marshall

Smashed Marshall in the contest and I thought his tapwork was better today.
The only ruckmen in the comp who combines physicality with elite tapwork is Max Gawn. Most do one or the other

X has improved year on year through his career so far. Confident his tapwork and connection with the mids will improve

This guy is a real Shinboner.
Ask me last year and I would’ve said no.
We had a guy in Goldy who was all finesse and endurance. His replacement is a bull at a gate, takes it out the air, tackles to hurt. We need to learn to work with his style.

But so far …. 👍🏼

I just wish he’d trust his tap work or the mids a little more. He’s done a power of work in a tough year and I love his attitude.

Had 40 hit outs today to Marshall and Hayes combined 23, Marshall is a top 4 ruck in the comp. If he trusted the mids to work with his taps he’d get a lot more credit.

There is a time and a place to grab direct from the air, but I think when our mids are given a chance to go 1on 1 with a neutral tap or to advantage we usually get a solid clearance.

Well I’m certainly not seeing what everyone else is.

Marshall is there lacing i50s to forwards whilst Tristan is trying to grab it out of the ruck and ****ing our prime movers.

He was our highest clearance winner and second highest centre clearance winner on the ground. Are we all really happy with this? I’d much rather our skilled midfielders be winning these than our ruckman who is under the ****ing pump because he’s ripped it out of the ruck and is getting tackled. The result is our mids are then under pressure or he hacks it forward.

He’s not tall enough and is an absolute battler.

Hope goad is the unicorn we are hearing
