I'd be playing this kid if Waite misses again.

Tristan Xerri | 15 disposals | 6 marks | 15 hit-outs

“He was forced to ruck on his own for most of the last quarter, and he gave us a really good contest in there. He took a number of contested marks forward and around the ground.

“He was a bit of shining light on an otherwise ordinary day.”

Xerri reminds me of Drew in terms of his development for age level.

Both rolled up on AFL lists with functional builds and good mobility. Neither looked out of place from the get-go in the VFL without the usual long gestation period needed for rucksize players.

Both look to be team-oriented courageous footballers with some supportive athletic attributes and have a reasonable level of awareness and composure.

Neither will end up looking physically like an Adonis nor be best of breed in anything particular but rather be handy all-rounder ruck-KP hybrids.

Long way to go for Tristan but the early signs are there to be a Drew style of player IMO. Would guess he'd be a decent floating CHB like Drew if deployed there too.

This big bastard has lots of promise. Skilled, athletic and comes across as a dedicated and serious person. Add our ruck development and he's almost a sure thing to become a player.

Actually reminds me a bit of Tom Boyd (prior to the mental health condition).

Strong overhead but very mobile for his size. Could play ruck on a full time basis but more than capable of holding down a position in the forward line.

Lots to like about him.

Like him a lot but slightly unnatural marking and kicking actions. Lots going for him regardless.

He'll need to polish his skills and get to more contests.

Is still a way off being an AFL player.

Solid kid for his height and age.

You generally put on 80% of your size on in pre-season as well. With one coming up, he's only going to get bigger.

It's hard to put on weight mid season with all the recovery, skills etc required.

How do you see this guy developing in 2019? As an outsider, it is easy to draw the conclusion that he is going okay to let Pruess go and not have a ready ruckman traded in as back up. Is that a fair conclusion, or strange list management?

its strange list management on melbourne's part to get pruess. we had no choice in letting him go. he went from goldy being ahead of him to gawn being ahead of him. we will find a ruckman if we want one. plenty of them around but Xerri will be fine in the future. he is very mobile for his size.
