I just wished he had an arial game and was able to fly for a pack mark

And what take away his brute strength? Can’t have it all, what he does have though was more than enough to win a Brownlow, 3 flags and 3 Normies etc.

What we need is a Key Forward to be fit to play.

Good to see a sophisticated Carlton supporter around.

Yep finals are important that’s why I rate Walsh better than N Daicos. Gary Ayres medal in 2023 right and didn’t even make the GF? Beast

The Gary Ayres Award is probably like the Brownlow medal for the Final series. Dusty has won both - the Brownlow medal (1) and Gary Ayres Award (3)

Yep, now try arguing with Geelong and Pies supporters about this. They think losing heaps of finals is success for some reason 🤣

when was the last time Martin was a midfield game changer?!

no need to invoke some mystery injury, much more likely that Dusty checked out a while ago.

see the likes of Pendlebury mentioned above, but Pendles is one in a million, has a hunger for relentless success/excellence that just isn't there in most.
Q. Did Dusty check out a while ago?
A : Dunno. Define check out I suppose. 2021 played well until injury. Late 22 returned for the final a bit underdone. 23 had a ball biter of a comeback season. 2nd in the B&F if you rate that crap.
2024 had a good preseason, and copped a late calf injury that kept him out of groundzero and round 3. Since Hopper & Tarranto he's more fwd anyhow.

His 24 performance has declined no doubt. See if he can improve, if/when he regains fitness.. patience grasshopper !!!

I don't think he's fit. He looked proppy to me on every set shot, and earlier in the season he did have to sit out a week to break a cycle of pain. My theory is that wasn't quite enough and he's just not feeling 100% to perform at the level he did last year.

Has he mentally checked out? Mmmm, hard to tell. He did lose two long standing mates Cotchin and Riewoldt, maybe the drive isn't there? But that's impossible to tell from the outside.

I suspect he has a long term hip flexor or groin niggle that has been developing over the past few years

Just doesn’t seem to have the penetrating kick he once had

He did a preseason without his BFFs, still plenty of 30 y.o.s at the club. Dunno if Dusty actually needs any external motivation, he probably hasn't even noticed their absence.

Balta is probably back this week so, have a way higher functioning fwd line. Dusty can really be that 3rd fwd type.

I guess we all (and rest of AFL world) have theories as to what and how and when etc etc happens next in regards to Dusty.

I mean who knows maybe Dusty wants to get to 300 games and then he will retire or maybe he knows that he has slowed down due to age and this is his final year and will retire at the end of the season. Believe it or not, but whilst Dusty may be pretty shy in front of the camera and towards the media, I think he is a deep thinker of the game and that includes weighing up options in his mind as to what to do when his contract with Richmond comes to an end this season. I reckon he is quite smart. I also hope for his sake that he has used his money wisely and set himself up for the future. His Manager Ralph Carr has probably had a very positive impact on his career and guided him right the way through.

Whatever happens between now and the end of his contract (end of this season), Dustin Martin has given a monumental amount to Richmond and delivered in spades many many.....MANY times over. He has certainly contributed a lot, his impact on matches in his career, especially in Finals Footy is what has set him apart from the rest for a midfielder/forward.

He has been great to watch and I am sure all other non-Richmond supporters would love to have had D. Martin playing in their team.

On Footy Classified, Barrett suggested North should go after Scott Pendlebury and as you can imagine Eddie wasn't having any of it saying Scott wants to stay as one club player he gains nothing from going to North & even said it would tarnish his legacy but than he than corrected himself & said it wouldn't.

But the point remains the same if Martin left Richmond. It would be a real shame if he finished at another club.

Reading between the lines after Cotchin asked Yze about Dusty, I don't think Yze is overly confident he'll stay. And honestly it may end up the best of both worlds if he does go. We're in transition, he won't be around when we next get near challenging (I know this gets said a lot), and if we can get something really good for him now, and let him release some pressure by moving away from VIC, it's win-win.

I love the sentiment, but we will get nothing for him :(

Imagine, nothing for Dusty, the only ever triple Norm Smith winner... Would be crazy. Surely GC would sling us a second rounder purely as the right thing to do.
it would suck, but he would be a FA so no trade.

Best of both worlds? it does nothing for him finishing at another club... absolutely nothing, in fact I do think it would not tarnish his legacy but it would be disappointing imo for him & our fans to finish at another club & not be a 1 club player.

I would rather him retire if that's the case but if he wants to play on he should do it here.

This comment from Yze I found interesting

“he’s still got his power, he doesn’t lose one-v-ones”

Maybe he’s carrying a calf and a bit of soreness, but the last couple of games I’ve watched him, I’ve thought the power and explosiveness, has been missing.
Even if he’s not injured not unusual for a 33yo to be slowing down.

Martin wasn’t selected AA in 2023 …. but Miers right now is a lock in everyone’s AA team of 2024:

Here is Miers 2024 v Dusty 2023:

Disposals: 22.0 v 23.6
Goals: 1.0 v 1.3
GA: 1.3 v 0.8
CP: 6.1 v 9.8 (wowsers!!)
Clearances: 3.1 v 2.8
Marks: 4.4 v 4.7
CM: 0.1 v 1.1 (wowsers!!)
SI’s: 7.3 v 7.7
SI% : 28.7 v 32.2 (wowsers!!)

Miers a walk up start, Martin not selected.

Geelong mafia at it again.

A genuine joke the AA shafting Tigers have copped the last 15-years. And the Geelong AA lovefest a reverse joke.
