Fringe elite is not a fringe player TI. Your original statement below inferred Short is a fringe player, ie fringe best 22.
it wasn't what i meant and had you be reading later on i clarified it, but you failed to comprehend Mate'
Anyway your stats proved my point at even when the team was running hot he was always below the A graders and elite. We wouldn't miss Short if we traded him off and the reality is we could actually end up getting a nice pick as most clubs are pretty gullible nowadays.

its pretty funny dusty will retire with nearly as many normys as AAs :drunk:

I think he should have 5, and given the usual favourable treatment for marquee players should have 6 (at least if he had a geelong guernsey)

4 is a f**ken travesty & frustratingly is used by oppo fans as evidence to perpetuate the false narrative that he was only a good player for 4 seasons

It’s because they literally can’t criticise him on anything else. He’s won everything unlike their Ablett duo.

Just announced on 3AW that they will be talking about Dusty going to another club, why do they have a hard on all the time about Dusty retiring, Dusty leaving etc?
As bad as the CFL and umpires, wishing negativity on us.

Perfect demonstration of armchair list management right here folks.

Rubbish since last year includes a sample of precisely 6 full game for Jayden Short. 6 games where our midfield has generally been marmalised.
Yet he's your superstar player underperforming. Double standards so the motto of the world is to blame others. FFS you really are a troll as you contradict everything you say. All his stats are down and HRS is way passed him . You are the rfc of the 90's keeping players on big contracts that are easily replaceable. If Short was living up to the player you're making him out to be then we would have one less player to worry about, but he;'s not. He's now reduced to just a shit footballer and squibs and falls over. So trade him out before he's worth sfa. last season ? He was terrible.

This man won us the 2020 flag. He literally kept us in it until half-time and played the single biggest hand in us gaining momentum in the second half. Without him we would not have won it IMO, and that's not to mention what he did for us in the years prior to that. Yes, he's nearing the end of a brilliant careet but he's far from done yet. I think he's playing injured at the moment or at least with restrictions (niggling injuries/soreness). If we weren't so decimated by injuries i believe he would have been 'managed' more by now. We just don't have that luxury to rest Dusty right now.

For those in here suggesting we don't offer him another contract, do me and yourself a favour, give yourself a firm uppercut. Yep that's right you deserve it, might knock some sense into you. Dusty decides if he wants to go on another year or two, the RFC don't make that decision for him. Case in point the basket case that is North Melbourne, they pushed Boomer, Firito and Petrie into early retirement, how did that work out for them?

That senior leadership, both off and on field, that a player like Dusty can bring to all these new draftees we bring into the club in the next few years cannot be understated. In fact I think it's crucial to our next tilt years up the track. If it were me, and Dusty wanted it, I'd give him two more years and the promise of a coaching/mentor role with our incoming newbies post playing days. We are going to hit the draft hard this year, next and probably one more after that, I want Dusty around the club for that. He's still easily best 22 for the foreseeable future even if his role became more forward and less midfield minutes in 2025 and 2026

Couldn't agree more. We were winning flags all over the place and we'd get one or two AA'a and other clubs won them and have six players in the AA !

The Darcy Byrne Jones one over Nick Vlaus still
annoys the hell out of me and it was ridiculous Dusty wasn't in the team last year.

Dangerflop just has to turn up and he's included every year !
Boy's Club.

Diatribe from you TI.

Short was ranked in the top 70 players in the AFL(so top 4 in an average team) by average player ratings in his most recent 2 completed seasons.

So his sample of games below that level is all of 6 complete matches in 2024 where you have no idea what is going on with the player or his precise role in the team under a new coaching structure or any other extenuating circumstances. Yet another example of you going off 1/4 cocked and if he starts playing well you will post something to the effect he is playing well then later claim you have been right about him all along because you posted he is playing well.

Stop deluding yourself, because you are not fooling any of us.

North Melbourne seriously quoting them and mentioning Fartrito and Petrie in comparison to Boomer is not going to win much followers. Seriously North didn't sink bc of them being tapped as they were cooked . If they weren't some other clubs would've picked them up. North is in the spiral we were in from 82-2010 with no money, low supporter base, poor culture already, debt and bc of this no decent player wants to go there. Give me a spell please.

Mate' he's been poor ok and go and do some real homework. I don't believe he was the 70th ranked player in the AFL in 23. you're confusing 21 and 22 with 22 and 23. as he only played 16 games. Either way he's a squib and easy kick chaser and that's my opinion so accept it or move on .

I am not confusing anything. You can see from the below his two highest rated years by average player rating were 2022 & 2023. Player ratings take into account a player's whole performance. Why did his player ratings increase in those last 2 years?

1 contested possessions increased from 3.9 per game in 2021 to around 5.7 per game in 2022 & 2023 combined.
2 his goals kicked increased from 1 in 2021 to 6 and 7 in 2022 & 2023 respectively.
3 his goal assists saw a similarly significant increase
4 ditto score involvements
5 tackles increased significantly
6 there was a big spike in pressure acts 2022

All seemingly while you were snoozing and not taking notice.

He’s still valuable as a leader on the field. You don’t see it much on TV but he’s always the one pulling the forward group together to chat to them, lifting teammates off the ground etc

He’s more of a leader than we probably give him credit for. Obviously his body is preventing him from playing how he and we want him to, but let’s just enjoy however long he has left. It is Dusty after all

I love Dustin and all he has done for Richmond. My dad says he is our best ever player and I believe him. I think he is the best player in the past 40 years at least. It is very very unlikely we will ever see a player like that play for RFC again. He is better than Judd (kicked more goals) better than Gary Ablett Junior (contested marking) and better than Wayne Carey (locker room poison vs team first).
He has the keys to RFC. He leaves on his terms. He has earned that right. Also if anyone seriously thinks Dustin would play on just because he wants the money but is not really best 22 you know nothing. If he is not best 22 he will retire. I am very confident of that.
You don’t know what you got till it’s gone. I want to enjoy every moment of Dusty.

Don't pay any mind to what those numpties say Moon. There is absolutely no way that Richmond will not be offering Dusty a new contract for 2025 and possibly beyond.

He still does more damage with ball in hand than anyone else in the side.

Yes so true and why I gave him a vote, but my massive concerns is the damage done by his opponent when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands. His DE has dropped especially when he fatigues around midway in the third. He’s like when Bartlett played in his last days that we could’ve got two more years out of him , but the team was so shithouse we couldn’t carry him as we needed a rebuild. It was unsuccessful back then and hindsight says he probably should’ve played in the end , but who was to know. If we hadn’t fallen of the cliff so rapidly and were like Geelong we could carry him easily, but not with the state of our list . He’d still be a massive weapon if we were at the Geelong level. I just hope he retires and walks gracefully as the second greatest Tiger in my era. I’m still with Bartlett as one as he made my childhood even more memorable with all the havoc and magic he created on a footy field. It was a hard pill to swallow watching him run out for the last time as it was for Knights, Richo , Cotchin , Sheds, Jack and obviously for Dusty. I just want him to finish like all those legends as a one club player so if we have to do that then I think the club has to give him another contract even if it’s against my wishes. Dusty has to be given a few more exceptions than others bc of his achievements. I’ve sort of changed slightly on what I intended initially by saying I don’t care what he does next year, but after waking up in a deep sweat and a massive headache after a nightmare of him in that horrible Suns uniform they wore on Sunday I came to the realisation he has to remain a Tiger for life.

I honestly think he will. He'll either retire or go on for another season. His defensive game has never been his strong point anyway, as it was previously down to someone like Castagna or Graham or Lambert to do that on his behalf while Dusty was tearing the opposition to shreds. It's just now we don't have that luxury as the team balance is out of whack.
