Maybe too good for VFL, not good enough for AFL.

That was the story with my footballing career...

... Too good for Talking Carlton, not good enough for BigFooty... :p

A player who wasn’t given a true opportunity in the position he excelled in to really see what he fully had to offer, so unlucky in that regard, played the high forward role fairly well being a consistent contributor…

Again another player who is in the bottom lot of players on the list unfortunately that need to make way, he’s not making it as a permanent small forward…

Best of lucky Gibbo…

Totally in my imagination, but I'm thinking this might have also been a personality decision for the group moving forward.
Could not agree with this any more if I tried. That would 100% be in your imagination 😄

A hard working joker with confidence that worked his arse off was not sacked for anything but football short comings. Too short with no weapon to make up for it.

Best of luck in what happens next, Gibbo!

Can't fault a guy who seemed to give his all without AFL-level attributes.

It's the elite-talent snowflakes that half-ass preparation, show no heart or cajones that grind fans' gears, not the meat-and-potatoes triers like Gibbo.

First sentiment that arose in my mind. The amount of times he referred to spending his days laying carpet before coming to Carlton, I just feel for the bloke. He'd be gutted and contemplating spending 5 days a week on all fours right now. All the best Gibbo, I hope it lands the right way round for ya!

If I remember rightly Gibbo was studying part time at Uni when we drafted him & he has probably had some opportunities fall in his lap since being at the club, so he may well not need to go back to laying carpets.

If his personality had anything to do with him being delisted then our club is in a lot of trouble. He was one of only a handful of extroverts on our list. One of the criticisms our club has copped at times is that overall we are too introverted.

Hard working? Maybe. Averaged 2 tackles a game for a midget playing half forward. Not good enough. If we want to go anywhere we need players who put in

Appreciate Gibbo's efforts over the past couple of seasons. As others have said, I think a few too many have gone past him in his best positions and he may have struggled to get a game in the 1s next year.

It is quite the quirk when a bloke who has never played in the 2s gets delisted. That can't have happened too many times in the past.

disgusting mouth on that twitter thing suggesting he's vfl level at best - we're talking about someone who has just lost his job.......

Twitter and Facebook are full of those gutless mouth breathing types whom I bet would never have the guts to say that to Gibbons himself if they came across them.

Gibbons was a far better and successful footballer than that bum who slagged him off at any rate.

I tend to believe that social media and internet posts should adhere to that old saying about not saying something about another person if you are not prepared to say it to their face.

Noticed Marbior Chol was racially abused on Instagram the other day which really pissed me off, flogs like that need to be publicly named and shamed so their friends and family know what kind of person that they are.

When I Was younger and more naive I used to be thoughtless and rant and rave about players I didn't like at games and online, but I finally grew up and understood how hurtful my actions had or could potentially be.

We need to better ourselves as not just footy fans, but human beings too.

This is the time of the year of the footy calendar I hate the most, when good, hard working folks like Mick Gibbons lose their jobs.

As I said in a previous post, I could see it happening due to the premium AFL list spots have these days, but it's certainly nothing to celebrate or joke over.

Hope Gibbo finds another chance at AFL level, somewhere, someday and prove that moron wrong.
