It's not every day that a rookie reporter gets tapped on the shoulder by their captain, sorry by their editor and given the story of a lifetime. So you can imagine my excitement when I was given this opportunity to write about of the greats of The Sweet F. A. a real titan of the game.
This player needs no introduction, mostly because their name is in the title of the thread so you already know who I am talking about. But their resume is certainly worth reading.
Premierships?
Individual awards?
Statistical dominance?
Longevity?
It is fitting in this reporters mind that this milestone will be achieved at home in front of the Demons faithful, and against the team a young Jum, as he's affectionately known to his teammates, made his debut with back in season 14. A debut that signalled to all the arrival of an exciting new talent. In his first 4 seasons in the league success seemed to come easy for the rookie wonder. 4x all SFA selections, winning the league goal kicking tally in only his second season, the first 2 of what would be 5 flags.
The last two league foundation teams, the team where DemonJim started his career, and the team where he currently plays, a steady veteran in the backline guiding the youth of this Demons squad towards what he hopes will be a 4th club flag, and third in his time at Mount Buller.
Ahead of this historic match I sat down with Jum to talk about qooty and its impact on his life.
GN: Hi Jum, thanks for being here today!
DJ: No problem Gra Gra I had a few minutes and manangatang said I had to do this.
GN: Ah our illustrious captain, what a man. Our readers are looking forward to Sunday almost as much as we are. But before looking forward I thought we could look back a little.
GN: You've won 5 premierships so far in your SFA career, does one stand out above the others as your favorite?
DJ: Probably the last one with the Dees! It's been so long since my first one I'm not really in the realm of remembering most of them.
GN: You've played for and won premierships with three different clubs, including the two remaining foundational clubs. Does playing your 400th in the Foundation cup make it all the more special?
DJ: It's funny, as I had started out at the Wonders I had said I'd never go across to the Dees. (even though I'm all about that in that other league) Time was fading at the bears after captaining for a few years and old mate C2R sent his third seasonal invitation to Mt Buller. So I took it.
Haven't thought about leaving this club since.
I suppose it does make it a little more special, being the starting club and the club I've now played over 230 games with.
GN: You've had many team mates over your career, who are some you've enjoyed playing with and why?
DJ: I enjoyed playing with guys like ShaunDuggan , Wise Guy Sam and Marklar_33 at the Wonders.
pantskyle brahj and the dirty Matera92 (who attempted to stab me in the back for captaincy)
And when we come to the Demons, there's just so many great people here.
I've played 231 games with cooney . The guy is a keeper and is always there for ya!
Headless is just a champ. sante is the best emu around.
GN: What do you attribute your longevity and success in the league to?
DJ: Early years it would be a keen interest in the league and the people in it.
It's passed by me in the last few seasons but I've come back a bit stronger this season.
Success... probably because of the longevity. Although I'm more than due for another premiership with the Demons!
This reporter would certainly like to see another Demons premiership as well, as would our readers I am sure.
GN: Out of the 399 games you've played to date, what are some of the highlights and lowlights for you?
DJ: One highlight would be the Grandfinal in Season 29 where I won the Deestroy medal. Absolutely smashing game where I had 18 tackles! It was also a lowlight as we lost that game.
Finishing 2nd in the Mobbs Medal 3 or 4 times without ever getting one, that was pretty tough.
There are plenty of highlights like holding the tackles record for I don't know how many seasons (although since being shoved out of the midfield I've dropped a bit), for more information on my career go check out my player profile at Demonjim - Profile
Readers if you've not checked out the above link it's well worth it. Sweet F.A.+ is a fantastic resource.
GN: After all that you have achieved what keeps you coming back year after year, is there unfinished business in your mind?
DJ: I suppose it would be talking with a few people that I enjoy.
There's plenty of unfinished business however a veteran like me is unlikely to climb as high as I once was. The body is definitely a lot more fragile than it used to be!
GN: Thank you for those thoughtful responses. I'm now going to read out some messages that current and former team mates have sent in for your 400th.

And finally, the team mate who has played the most games with Jum, preparing to run out of the 232nd time together cooney got a far off look in his eyes when this reporter asked him if he had anything he wanted to say about the upcoming milestone match. Summing the situtation up only as he can, cooney replied with a heartfelt
Words to live by indeed.
Well readers it is over to you now. If you have a message share it, and make sure you get down to the Snow Dome on Sunday to watch history being made by DemonJim one more time.

For those at home, the last premiership the Demons won was in Season 31, an epic against perenial league heavyweights the Baghdad Bombers. The Demons prevailed 16.14 (110) to 13.3 (81) in that game DemonJim was widely considered Best on Ground for the Demons though controversially did not win his second Deestroy medal. Still the stat line tells the tale of the massive influence he had in the middle on the contest. The only player to top 30 disposals in the game DemonJim had the ball 34 times, constantly sending it into 50 for the Demons forwards and chipping in with a goal of his own.GN: You've played for and won premierships with three different clubs, including the two remaining foundational clubs. Ah yes, DemonTim.
We were teammates once or maybe twice and quickly became the best of friends. And like any true friends we developed a bitter generational rivalry over who has the better post game handshake technique. I’ll never forgive him. But I will begrudgingly say congrats on being active for like a million years.
Marklar_33 shared this heartfelt message
Demon Jim is my dad. He’s not my father, but he took a very keen interest in my mother, and so he’s the father figure I never had. He taught me every I know. From failing to be loyal and active in the SFA, to being an absolute bust of a fantasy baseball player, I’m grateful for the time spent showing me how to be a respectable member of fake society. Congratulations on your 400 games, and mum says call her sometime
Moving to your time at the Bears
pantskyle came up with this typically pantskyle response
Wow 400 games already for DemonJum, Jumbo, Jumbob.
Jum as we call him has been a constant figure throughout my own very long career. We've often gone head to head as the leagues greatest players where I come out well in front due to simply being better in every aspect. However 400 games as an active poster, Hall of Famer, various other things I am sure is not to be sneezed at, well done Jum for being around for a very long time. You're a constant source of entertainment as someone we can collectively laugh at and never with. Kudos old mate, here's to 400 more.
Matera92 was straight to the point
He constantly writes cheques that his ass can't cash.
However, I enjoyed the time we spent together riding down the highway to the dangerzone.
And finally Dingster waxed lyrical about your time as co-captains
Hi DJ, I went back in time and in December 2014 as co captain of the Bears you sent me a survey. Apart from feeling a little uneasy about you calling me "Dear Dingster" I asked you to build a roof for the Stadium in the Sky and I'm still waiting. Happy 400th - Ding
And finally some messages from your Demons team mates.
manangatang the Demons captain is first up
I’d love to congratulate Jum on making it to 400 Sweet F.A. games.
He’s been a great member of our LG for a number of seasons now, even if we haven’t been able to accommodate his eternal quest for a Mobbs.
We don’t care what they say Jum - you’re already the winner of the Mobbs in our heart.
Next up one of the newer guard at the Demons, it's Wosh
@DemonJim and I go back a long way, a long rocky way. Once I thought he was the worst person on here (he was) but since we’ve reconnected as team mates I’ve found him to have grown as a person and to be almost pleasant and fun, we can even throw a bit of poop at each other without it sticking!
400 games is a huge milestone and I will celebrate it with you DJ

Congratulations on being the 27th person to reach 400 games in the SFA DJ. It seems unusual for you not to be runner up.
Direct from the desk of Headless
DemonJim is one of the most well-credentialed members of the Sweet Football Association, and should be lauded at such. To make it to 400 games in the place is a huge achievement, and just adds one more line to DJ's already extensive CV.
I have been lucky to be teammates with DemonJim for a long time, now. I've seen up close their proficiency on the qooty field, and their excellence off it.
DemonJim is one of the best.
