The media can help destroy a career sure, but there needs to be something of substance there first and that is entirely the fault of the player. If the recruiters of 18 teams were unable to see Garlett's problems without needing the media spotlight to be on him they all should be sacked.

Hey

Ant555 who works in recruiting has posted 'that Garlett has issues as did some other drafted players'. The difference is that the media publicised Garlett's indiscretions.

It's up to you whether you accept Ant's post.

I agree with KR and KA.

Power showed some good signs in 2012, but were decimated by injuries in the last third of the year.

Losing Chaplin and Pearce will hurt in the short term, and in fact Power may tread water in 2013.

Middield is their weakest area, but if they can get games into their promising midfielders, they could win 10 games in 2014.

If clubs based their opinions of a player solely on media reports then drafting has gone backwards. There are other ways for recruiters to find out about players you know. He only has himself to blame.

He does and no one is disputing that. He is the one that keeps stuffing up so he has to wear it.
However there is a big double standard as some blokes who also stuffed up but did not get the media attention did get drafted. Make no mistake, Garlett missed out on getting drafted because of the media attention well before the draft, his own doing yes but not exactly a level playing field.

Anyway Hams gave us no choice but to select him, he worked 150% to make sure he had every chance.

So who got drafted that stuffed up?

From the Sale Football Club. Goddard, Winderlich, Ross and Heppell all Gippsland Power boys as well.
Same club, same school (catholic college sale) as Scott Pendlebury, has an older brother Tom who moved to Bendigo for uni and has now signed with Bendigo Gold in the VFL ,meaning in rd 1 when Essendon vfl meet Bendigo the two brothers will be on opposing sides.

First time they have played in the same game of footy! Be interesting to see what happens if they spend time on each other during the game, similar style of player, could happen.

Yeah Tom was one of those unlucky guys who was a late developer and missed the TAC cup boat but he's played some brilliant footy over the last couple of seasons though.

Late reply, but do you know why Garlett was kicked out of the AIS (not asking you to post it, just whether you know what it is)? I don't know any specifics but if what I've heard about it is true, then I'd be very surprised if any other draftee or non-draftee was on the same scale of misdemeanour. I'm going off second hand hearsay so you may well be more informed than me, but I do think it could be a fair call from the clubs.

(I'm not expanding on what I've posted here about the AIS incident fwiw, not fair to do so when I don't know the details)

Other than some very basic highlights, don't really know much about this kid but by all accounts is a decent young fella who has busted his arse to get on an AFL list. Hoping he goes on with it now and forges himself a great career.

Everywhere I read, Hams has been compared to Sloane.

Based on this, if he is anything like Sloane, he is a steal
on the positive side, Sloane went pretty late too (although not Hams late..)

on the negative side, it's hard not to think that people are making the comparison mainly because they look so similar in the face...

In playing wise he is similar too.

If he can just pick up his endurance he should be right.

What's his actual downside? Decision making at times?

If that's the case, then Heppell had that in 2012 at times too.

That comes with experience and he developed well in 2012
