As long as Sheedy is there so will these great players be there
Rioli a 'great player'? Handy, but hardly 'great'. One thing about our game is that terms such as legend, champion and 'the great man' get so abused that their true meaning is diluted. If Rioli is a great player, what were Polly Farmer, Wayne Carey, Leigh Matthews, etc?

Another thing about our game is that people take things far to literally.

I think it's quite obvious he wasn't suggesting Rioli is in the class of Carey etc.
He does have great skills, he has great ability, he hasn't had a great output.

I think the real question should be how much longer can you keep Reynolds, Johns, Cole and Henneman on your list?
reynolds is still young and has been injury prone so we still have to give him a chance to prove himself. Same with Johns.Cole has not even played a game yet and remember we have only just started the season and its his first year at our club so we have to wait and see what he offers to the team aswell. henneman i do agree with though.

you bloody sour essendon supporters....we are a developing club, stop pointing the finger and wait for the team to develop....Rioli has done nothing wrong this season. he is getting 8-15p's per game and they are very effective, he never wastes opportunities going forward. i'd much prefer a dean rioli playing 11 highly skilled games a year than a kid that isn't going anywhere playing 15-20 games

Does anyone know if rioli will play again this year. appears that this thread may turn out to be true.

Jarryd, i'll let you wait till summer before you do your walk, avoid any unnecesary 'shrinkage' with the cold. ;)

Needs to play 2 from 8.

I reckon Sheedy will play him in those two games even if he plays 5 minutes in total - just keep him on the bench. Could be a good way to "tank" since that's what he likes.

May as well give him his 2...he'd have to be piling on the weight right now with his knee going AWOL. Good luck to him, but am looking forward to having that extra spot on our list available to some potential star on the rise

I second all of that

Please note that I've said it wasn't a guarantee....and thank christ I did.

I don't think the club should limp him across the line to his 100 games. I love Rioli as a player but I think it's a case of a career than should've been and it should end at 98 games.

I would much prefer Jolley, Lonergan or <insert young players name here> to get valuable game time and experience rather than waste time on Dean playing 5 minutes a quarter. Some might say it's only 2 games and we might get a father/son pick from it. Get real people. What if he never has a son and those 2 games could have helped bring another young player on. Who is to say that in at least 18 years the AFL won't scrap the F/S rule anyway.

Probably been discussed already but being that there is only 6 games left for our boys and the quote below taken from the EFC article I think it is worthwhile.

Dean Rioli is still two weeks away from playing but bar anything unforeseen happening will be able to play the two games that will get him to 100 career games.

It doesnt bother me really if he gets his hundred, but I can just imagine the gags coming through the media if it does eventuate. Can almost see a cartoon from Mark Knight (Herald Sun cartonnist) with Lloydy in the goal square on crutches and Hirdy with a 2 kilo bag of ice strapped for his hammy.

Why not play him the spot of two youngsters we know we are going to keep next year? Say Ryder and Monfries. Both will recieve plenty of opportunity in 07. Missing one game each surely wont send them backwards. Give em a nice week off.

give him his two weeks, a carton of viagra, and tell him to get on the job with the missus NOW.

we may be lucky and find one that has the 'rioli skills' genes, but not the 'fat/weak knees' genes.
