The great irony about Sydney Stack is that he was not drafted for lack of maturity and doubts on his stability and background. To me he behaviour on a footy field is so far beyond his maturity in years, his character and obviously the way he was brought up is a credit to him and his family.
Well posted! :thumbsu:

Very well put.

there should be a few more Stack giphies I reckon....when Toadvine gets a chance to update the replay links that is..meanwhile I'm still waiting for the torrent link...

might even do the Stack / Betts hi5 just to Stack it up the human moral compasses.

I'll get sorted and put up the last two games on Tuesday.

1. EDDIE BETTS AND SYDNEY STACK

“Some people weren’t happy about it, but stuff them. It was in the moment. It’s about belonging, it was a beautiful thing,’’ Sean Gorman, respected author and manager of the indigenous player alliance, said.

Gorman’s point was that old-school views where any kind of affection or acknowledgment between opposition players is seen as a sign of weakness, is being forsaken for players living in the moment.

“What Stack did was what blackfellas do at end of the game, but he did it in the game. Two brother boys came together,’’ Gorman said.

“What we’re seeing now in football is a bunch of actions and behaviours within club land and from players themselves, particularly indigenous players, where they will do what they want to do … and if you don’t like it, then you deal with it. Stack is a star, an enigma. But he understands he can do what he wants to do. It’s called agency, players using their voice and their actions.’’

How powerful was it?

“It’s potentially iconic,’’ Gorman said. “I think it’s a game-changer.’’

2. THE KID HIMSELF

Sydney Stack is a revelation and perhaps a leader of a revolution. The argument that he is a serious rising star contender can’t be ignored. He’s explosive, fearless and creative. His footy IQ for a 19-year-old is off the charts. When he gets his fitness to the necessary levels he will be a brutal weapon in the midfield.

As for being a leader of a revolution, and as Gorman pointed out, Stack will express himself how he wants to and when he wants to without fear of criticism or ridicule. His war dance at the Dreamtime game was powerful and authoritative and his embrace with Eddie Betts was much the same. You’ve got to admire his dash.

Perceptive and well written...

I loved the Stack and Betts thing. Stacky was giving him a bit of lip. Betts kicked his normal miracle goal and said 'told you so'. And Stack took it brilliantly. Showed respect - but with a very hard edge when the ball is in play.

SO playing the game in a brilliant spirit - good to see.

I don't think it was even 'lip' that Stacky gave to Betts more of a challenge between the two that Betts took up!
A little game within a game...great footy! great spirit!
I like this new part of footy, the player's individualism/human side whatever you like to call it on display!...
Been missing since Ackermanis retired...
If your good enough, show it! If your beaten then, don't spit the dummy just acknowledge it and move on! Not like McEnroe...

By lip all I meant was Syd telling Eddie 'I'm good enough to stop you'. Great to see from a kid. And amazing that he backed it up. great game.

Good article from Des Headland https://m.afl.com.au/news/2019-06-1...-hug-explained-why-whitefellas-miss-the-point.

You would think someone like Gary Lyon who happy racially abused Chris Lewis, would shut his big trap on Indigenous issues.
Garry was commenting on it as not being an indigenous issue, he always says he doesn't like players smiling after they lose etc. If it was 2 white players who did the exact same thing he would have given the exact same comments.

When is Gary Lyon going to acknowledge that there are differences between Indigenous and white culture? He is a fairly ignorant fellow it seems and a past racist, ask Chris Lewis.

Pretty unlikely he ever will. Guy is obviously a massive flog, just ask Billy Brownless lol

Just watching Michael Walters kick 6 for Freo on the weekend can’t help but wonder if Syd could be developed to play a similar role - forward/mid.

He has all the tools- one touch, wins contested ball, good overhead, good kick.

No doubt he’d be a success across hb as we’ve already seen but Rioli and Stack up forward could be mouth watering

I think he will be an outstanding midfielder once he gets the fitness base up to required level for the role
