Lyon was a good player.

Cant imagine him or Hardwick hugging the opposition when getting flogged ala SS

because its supposed to be a war not a love fest
It won't happen again, Stack is more likely to put you in hospital than hug you during a game.I admit that when I saw it ,it looked a bit strange but I don't think anyone at Richmond is bothered by it.

Was Stack treating it like a love fest when he knocked Viney on his arse against Melbourne?

If Richmond were not getting smashed. Again.

It probable wouldn't have been as annoying .

I'd bet Dimma wasnt happy with it. Regardless what PC stuff he said. might have belted SS behind close doors again

it was two months ago

Doesn't matter.

It shows he is willing to treat it like "war" when it matters.

He would have no hesitation in doing the same to Betts.

BTW I'm not saying I "loved it". Would have been preferable to wait after the game, but I don't think it's as big of a deal as some are making it out to be. It's a game ffs.

Haha....well I'm not that young myself (not that old either), but realise that there is nothing I can do about change so....

I suppose as well, the old timers I was referring to are the ones who always blame the younger generation on everything that is wrong with the world and cannot move past it.....not meaning to put everyone in the same box though!
Has anything really changed over the last few generations??

Young guys always think they know better, old guys have generally tried a lot of things so are set in their ways as they know what works, or have a good routine.

The real question is what sort of contract do we offer Stack.I can see North or StKilda offering him $400,000 and 3 years.I'm hoping we sign him for $250,000 for two years.

didnt like it myself but the game was done and dusted at that stage,i am sure it would not have happened if the game was still on the line

I think Lyon is overrated for what he achieved.
One time leading goal kicker and I reckon this attitude of combatative at all costs and hurt the opposition whenever you can is why he was Captain.
That’s what he was known for
Not talent

Disagree. Would have loved him at Tigerland

It's a ****ing game, not a war. It was nothing more or less than great sportsmanship.

Speaking of war, German and Allied troops stopped shooting at each other in WWI to sing Christmas carols in no man's land. There were probably a few disapproving hurrumphs from the landed gentry 20 miles from the front, but Tigers care not for the opinions of lambs.

We all know how good he was of a player on field.
Off field we all know what type of player he is.

Na, I can't stand the bloke but he could footy.

Did he kill a girl, drug cheat the entire club or do it at a bbq?

there are lots of players that are flawed humans. SS might not be perfect either (he seems pretty cool but)

its a bit below the belt to focus on the off field stuff

"He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at Gary."

They played soccer too. The big wigs couldnt have that.

Im not sure how it is relevant though.

Football isnt a game its a billion dollar industry and has been for some time.

I merely said I didnt like the look of SS incident due to being salty at the team losing significantly, again. I obviously love him as well all do.

Everyone has flaws. But when your in the media or more to the point in the public spotlight your every move is under the microscope.Lyin would have known and understood this,But didn't stop him doing what he did.

I was actually watchin a bit of 80’s footy this morning Tiges against Pies and Hogg got ten I think, Naish and Gale a couple.
Ok, maybe a bit ungracious on Lyon cause he can annoy me.
A mug won’t Captain a club.
But that was his go he did like to play it like that, all things in love and war and all that.
I remember him trying to get under the skin of Ablett snr one day, Gary ended up having a bit of a nap.
It was different Stack and Betts, he did give the North kid a head rub after a mark, it’s just his way I think and it’s the new approach to encourage em to be themselves.
I’m alright with it
