Seriously? Our vfl side should never be a factor. They can recruit for that outside of our afl list.

You need to widen your vision re the club. I’ve used this example before and I’ll use it again, the residual effects of Kallan Dawson playing deep and key back last year are the reason Goater moved further up the ground and had a great patch of form late and in turn made his debut. Players like Howe, Turner, Free and Shiels will have similar affects playing at the coal face for our younger players whilst they develop. The better our VFL team the better ours 1s will be.

Will also help develop a winning culture.

Spoke to a fella over in WA, said he was surprised he was picked up but he can see some scope for potential. Already has a mature body, is a good trainer, intelligent, excellent ruck craft, decent athletic traits and solid overhead. Hasn’t been much of a goal kicking threat but plays a bit behind the ball. Defensive intent is solid.

Bit to work with anyway.

Good point,,,,our 96 Reserves team won the premiership....look how strong the Casey Demons have been of late too!

Now we're talking, another ruck I like it. A real vote of confidence for Xerri & CCJ.

I knew you'd be all over this.

Brady had 2 choices:

Call Callum and Tristan into his office, ask one of them to close the door then explain he thinks they're both shitmen and that he'd have more faith in his 9yo son to take over the ruck when Goldie gives it away

OR

Draft in a bloke who was playing country footy 2 years ago and is pretty the exact same age, height and weight as them and hope they get the hint

Love this pick. Having players promoted to seniors from a competitive VFL squad is so much better than the AFL team losing by 69 points only to have the players being recalled having been belted by 420 the same weekend.

I daresay someone will be Xerrified at this selection.

The Terrifier was absolutely insane by the way, anyone seen that movie? Absurdity

Both of them could be playing regular afl next year.
Then our ruck stocks consist of Edwards? Who we may be trying to train up in a different position.

Considering how much a dominate ruckmen helps keep structure in vfl, it makes sense why we’d bite the bullet and get a mature one now.

Is his 9yo an option still? 🤔

Mature-aged South Fremantle ruck Hamish Free will ditch the suit for a North Melbourne jumper after getting picked up in Wednesday’s rookie draft.

The 24-year-old was watching the Test cricket on TV, thinking the draft started three hours later, when he received a life-changing call from manager Anthony Van Der Wielen.

Free hadn’t even had time to tell his bosses at Deloitte, where he works in risk advisory, that he won’t be coming in Monday as he packs his bags and heads east for Arden St.

“I work in risk advisory so that’s done for the day now and at for a little bit now,” Free The West Australian.

“I haven’t had a chance to call any of the bosses yet, I called mum and dad and then I called my brothers and now the phone is just going crazy with everyone calling.

“I had no inkling or anything, my manager called while I was working and the phone has gone crazy ever since.

“I was watching the cricket and then I got the call.”

Free’s rise has been remarkable, considering he was playing country footy for Harvey Bulls in the South West league two years ago where he won the club’s best-and-fairest award.

He’s never been part of any State teams and only came onto the draft radar this year amid a career-best season in the WAFL.

“It’s definitely not the stock-standard journey at all, but that’s kind of the beauty of it I guess,” Free said.

“I’ve done it the long way and I don’t think many, if any, would have expected it but we’re here now so I’m looking forward to cracking in and getting to work.

“It was probably only the last week where I realistically thought it could happen, that was when I had the phone calls and what not.

“But I never really got too ahead of myself thinking it was going to happen and now it has so I better start packing my bags and sort my stuff out.

“Every kid has a dream and then you probably get a bit older and realise it’s not to be but I was quite happy playing at South Freo and working towards a career at Deloitte.

“I can probably only play footy for a finite amount of time so hopefully I can go back to Deloitte but for now I’m going to crack in and enjoy every moment I have at North Melbourne.”

Free won’t put a ceiling on what he can achieve at North Melbourne next year with a mature body and life outside of footy sorted.

He was looking forward to learning off fellow big man and All-Australian Todd Goldstein.

“I will be picking his brain as much as I can and try to become as good as I can, as quick as I can, as I’m starting six years later than most so I need to make up for lost time,” Free said.

Free was the only West Aussie picked up in the rookie draft with East Fremantle utility Jed Hagan and silky-skilled Claremont half-back Sam Gilbey among the surprise snubs.

He took the total drafted from the State to 14 including nine in the national draft and two apiece added as Category-B rookies by Fremantle and West Coast.

If he tells the media he was watching the cricket while “working” maybe a career in risk advisory is not for him.

First time the words Free and Deloitte have appeared in the same sentence.

Feels a bit like a Tom Campbell replacement.
Plays VFL ruck every week and may come into the side if we have severe injuries or lack of form.
For a rookie spot I'm ok with this.

I knew you'd know that I knew this and that I knew that you'd comment on my post, knowing what I know.

Now that we have that out of the way.

How tall is Brady's nine yr old?

And anyway CCJ and Xerri have a combined six years worth of contracts = happy days for them.

Yes an interesting move nonetheless.

Watching those "highlights" he reminded me a little of Tom Campbell, looks a little lost once he moves a few metres away from the centre circle.

Anyway, welcome to Arden Street Mr. Free.

Do we call him World B Free? :D
As long as he's not 'Eric Wallace lost' he should be okay.

You are very generous Devo, and good on you. After watching those highlights, he reminded me of a first class shitmen.

oh well
