Well more of everything would be good. First year players have stat lines like that. Rohan was rubbished on this forum for stats like that. Mature age recruits have stat lines like that for bottom four teams. Not to say what he does do isn't quality, or positive and generally he is an important link in the chain, but his overall contribution is still just average.

Borderline all-australian as in not at all?
And also.. not our best medium last year.. unless you mean physically close, as in he played in the same forward line as Heeney
What a whole lot of crock.

You can compare stats with stats all you want, stats don't explain the situation they occured in during a game. For Hayward it comes in clutch. Contested marks whilst outnumbered on a make or break play, multiple tackle efforts whilst outnumbered causing a spillage and goal against the odds etc. Could compare 100s of players with similar stats but next to 0 comparison in terms of impact.

Typical simp footy fan comment with a basic understanding of the game. You'd be comparing spud stat padders like jaidyn Stephenson to Brownlow medallists with logic like that.

cool.

Never made any claims about stats being the same as impact.

Hayward contributes. Others might end up surpassing that contribution. Three talls, Heeney medium, Papley small, doesn't leave much room. An extra medium may not be as important as a different kind of mix.

I am not sure if Hall Kahan is that similar to Hayward. I see Hayward as a quick mobile medium forward that gets into space and can mark the ball in the forward line.

I don't think Hall Kahan will be as strong aerially and may be more of a quick forward flanker.

I have not been to training recently. But I assume Hall Kahan is fully fit. He missed the first few weeks of preseason and was doing a lot of boundary running. But I think he played the full VFL practice game 2 weeks ago against Brisbane in the forward line.
He did play against Brisbane. In the first quarter he was the only senior listed player in the forward line. He played CHF! The attack was very chaotic and I can't recall him getting near it. Not his fault. Don't think he'd ever met half his teammates.
His first game he played HHF/HFF and kicked 5 goals. I suspect Hayward would do similar if he played that role. He did that sort of stuff in his draft year.

Really, show me a first year player, who played in Hayward's position in the AFL, who had stats for the year that matched his!

If Hugo Hall-Kahan can match these stats as a first year player, or even a second or third year player, then he will have done an outstanding job!

Regularly mid-sized forwards average better than 12d, 1g per game, even as first year players eg Stephenson, Rachelle, Papley. Oliver Henry

Haywards own debut season is only 3 dispsoals per game fewer than his last year.

Is he our only hope?
He's looked promising at times in the VFL this season - but like so many of our VFL troops, he's quick, but light-framed and tends to thrive when pressure isn't enormous & he gets a bit of space.

He's only 188cm - so falls into the "medium" category. If you're hoping he's going to fill a key position, that won't happen.

Since when has being a small or medium stopped the swans from playing them in key positions?

Stock standard swans player

Hugo started really well last year, but didn't come on and progress enough this year. I think he had injury and/or surgery over the last off-season which wouldn't have helped but I guess our coaches just didn't see enough to keep the faith.
