The only time I saw him live was up here on the GC when he played in the U18s as an underager. Seemed a bit of a plodder. Looked to be plodding a bit today as well. He made the AIS though, must have some serious skills. Look forward to seeing him develop. Not sure putting him with CEllis is the right move.
Perhaps sprints with Menadue.
I was more in the thinking mould that we need to put some strength and conditioning into him as well as the other two blokes. Menadue has bulked up considerably, but he’s been in the system for three years and four preseasons.
When you say he’s a plodder is he a CEllis type or a Sam Mitchell?

The day I saw him ...... 'Ben Lennon' :astonished:

But the next year (last season) I saw him again in a couple of the 18s, but on TV, and was much better, playing off the HBF.

Yesterday it was late in the game, and it was more of a tank problem than a size problem was my point. I'm sure when we get to the end of the season, he will be feeling more confident at VFL level and a season training with the seniors will see big improvement.

Anybody know his combine results??

There's a paywalled article on the HSun about Naishy, probably just generic stuff but anyone have access?

Here’s a summary of the article:

Richmond father-son pick Patrick Naish is unlikely to make his AFL debut from some time

RICHMOND fans are unlikely to see Patrick Naish make his AFL debut for some time as the father-son selection continues to work on his defensive traits.

Naish was taken with pick No.34 in last year’s draft and has been developing at half-back in Richmond’s VFL program, playing every game in the state league this year.

Richmond VFL coach Craig McRae said Naish was “a bit back in the queue” for senior selection.

“I think there’s a few in front of him, Connor Menadue is playing some really good football at half-back and so is Brandon Ellis and Oleg Markov,” McRae said.

“It’s not a pecking order, but certainly there’s a few in front of him.”

Naish, the son of former Richmond forward Chris, came through the TAC Cup and AFL Academy last year as a dynamic outside midfielder.

But the Tigers are keen to develop the 19-year-old’s defensive skills.

“He’s got huge offensive weapons and we just want to make sure there is a balance between offence and defence,” McRae said.

“We’re playing him down back to teach him those habits.

I would pay for that article. I might buy a heraldsun subscription but so I can read it again.

Thank you greatly to Oprah for supplying it for free.

He made all aust U18 side , dunno what you were watching . We can afford for him to take time , clearly a few in front of him , I saw him do a few things. While back in praccy that had me think, whoa , he has some tricks

He’s a fair way off senior footy doesn’t have the size or power to mix it with the big boys yet.
When your premiers and sitting on the top of the ladder you have the luxury of giving him plenty of time to develop

It's great to finally be in the position where we are not throwing 18/19 yr olds into the meat grinder of senior footy, before we have had an opportunity to really develop them and make sure they are as prepared as possible while eaning their senior spot.

This seems to be how your swans , hawks etc have been doing it fir years....seems to be a key corner stone to sustainable success...

Yep for sure and the great thing is that you know he is receiving great development under McCrae in our 2s.

Kinda a weird article.
Connor Menadue is ahead of him?
A fourth-year bloke is ahead of a roookie? Hmmm.

Patrick Naish has really been developing well, 11 contested possessions well up on his numbers in the TAC.

Patrick Naish

26 disposals, four tackles, five inside-50s and one goal

“Has had a good couple of weeks of consistent footy. He’s getting his hands on the ball, but what is pleasing is he’s been strong around the contest, four tackles which has been great as well. His running ability when he gets the ball is certainly exciting to watch.”

To all our avid VFL watchers, what are the thoughts here?
Sneaky chance to get a game this year, will be lucky to get one next year, or longer term prospect than that?

TigerImposter you see a lot of the VFL boys...

I've watched him on and off all year and over his last four games his confidence has grown and his attack on the footy is relevant to what our game plan demands.. He physically looks stronger and he's getting more game time bc of this. His motor has improved significantly since I first watched him early in the year, however he simply does not play for the reasons below.

This what I posted on the VFL Thread:

Hes come on in leaps and bounds in size and confidence and as I’ve been saying for the last month the young fella is looking like an exciting prospect. In terms of playing him in the AFL I would advise against it for two major reasons:
a. Our team needs to be picking best 22 for September as we all saw what happened Saturday night. The step up is enormous and a bad game could actually be more damaging to the lads confidence. North are so weak the previous week against Casey they kicked 7 points for the whole game. So I’m glad he played well again as this is what we are expecting from him in the vfl in these types of games.
b. He’s just started tearing down the competition at VFL level , so with him it’s more developmental time in the VFL at this stage. In the Tuck and Dipper days it didn’t hurt them playing up to fifty games in the Twos to physically develop and harden mentally in the Twos. I wouldn’t even entertain the thought of him getting a game this year bc he’s tracking beautifully for a first year player that came in at 182/71 in size according to my app. Let him hang his hair down in the twos for this season and at least half of next season.

100% spot on, agree with your assessment thereTI, tracking nicely is young pat
Another solid pre season , ,and hopefully no injuries, should see him in the seniors in 2019, for a taste,, then 2020 look out
