Specifically: reference to TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) and its counterpart 'Trumpanzee' or anything similar will no longer be allowed. These are a conversational barrier and fall-back point for people to simply sling mud. That's unacceptable. Personal attacks are also to be kept to a minimum.

Contextually it wasn’t quite as bad - he was saying how because he beat the virus he was immune so could kiss everyone (as in the seeking close contact that the traditional political hustle does)

I dare say most of his base wouldn't approve of him kissing the men.

I don't really like getting into these particular discussions because everything is so partisan over here that I don't think it's super helpful. Of course what Trump is saying is utterly bogus and inflammatory as always, and he doesn't care about people who won't vote for him. But anyway:

I had a better graphic, one of those bar charts that evolves over time, showing that these days the top 15 states in terms of death per capita are pretty much all Republican-led (with the exception of California I believe) but I can't find it.

Ultimately the democratic states got hit first because they are bigger international transit hubs from China and Europe. They didn't do a good job containing it, but they also the first in America to have to combat it (but not the first in the world... should have learned from Europe). They ultimately instituted lockdowns. Then when they had gotten the virus under control they started lifting some restrictions. By then, the virus was only just starting to take hold in more rural (and hence more Republican) states. Instead of Republican states then facing it head on, they said "oh well the democrat states are opening up, so we should too!" even though they were just at the start of being smashed by Covid.

America is like playing Plague Inc on easy setting. All of this make it perfect to be smashed by a virus:

1) Idiot in the white house and sycophant governors who will follow him around the country (who really have most of the power)
2) Awful healthcare system that is fractured across the states and very little national coordination
3) Poor social safety net, so there is nothing to keep people afloat even if they can't/shouldn't go to work
4) Hyper-partisan politics meaning getting anything passed congress is almost impossible
5) A public distrustful of government and science

I had thought about this abstractly the other day, in terms of lethality/virulence. The fact that it is deadly but not *too* deadly while easily transmissible is like the ideal for the virus - don't kill the host before you get a chance to spread heaps, bonus is people like Trump in power who clearly don't give a shit because they don't have to facilitate its survival and indeed thriving.

about what I expected, thank you. I saw the bar chart thing, was excellent

The fact that it is deadly but not *too* deadly while easily transmissible is like the ideal for the virus - don't kill the host before you get a chance to spread heaps, bonus is people like Trump in power who clearly don't give a sh*t because they don't have to facilitate its survival and indeed thriving.

Anyone who has played Plague Inc knows that you need a good mix, and Covid has it.

Ebola was too deadly to spread widely (and was handled by a more capable government)

Swine Flu spread like hell but didn't have the lethality to rival Covid.

This is EXACTLY what the health experts have been saying all along.

This is why a country can go from a small number of cases, to its hospital system being completely overwhelmed, in just a matter of days.

And still those with a political or monetary motive (or sheer, brain-melting stupidity) keep saying “it’s no worse than the flu”.

Only just saw this from his rally. “I’ll kiss everyone, I’ll kiss all the guys and the beautiful women” - wowee boy oh boy, he sounds completely batshit demented when he says that.

Now that he's on the gear (and loving it apparently) I dare say he won't be mentioning drug tests anymore.
