I agree that we should accept that there are people who believe crazy things. Not sure who doesn't accept that btw- people believing crazy things and ignoring undeniable proof has always been a thing. It's just that the advent of social media and FoxNews gives them an audience and a credence they previously never received.

But we should not accept that those people are fit to run for public office - anywhere.

(that includes people whose previous lovers include a velvet lounge suite running for VP btw)

Believing in Jewish space lasers: “that’s fine.”

Believing in access to abortion and universal healthcare: “they’re crazy, don’t listen to them!”

OK, let's just drop our IQ by about 50 points for a moment, throw in a total absence of critical thinking skills and become top tier MAGA supporters candidates and assume there is such a thing as a global Jewish conspiracy and that they use hidden space lasers to start catastrophic wildfires to control global finance movements.

But imagine the level of idiocy it takes to allow that anti-Semitic conspiratorial thinking to co-exist with a political ideology that is without doubt the world's most vehement supporter of Netanyahu's war machine.

If the crazy things are just a bit of homeopathy and some space-wizard stuff, I don't think it matters too much.

If they are totally consumed by objectively crazy things and use them in their work then no, keep them away from anything important.

JD Vance is the gift that keeps giving. The Democrats could elect a sock puppet as VP that would destroy him in a debate.

JD be like.....

He’s a real desperado. No credibility whatsoever.

Just call me JD. With the amount of Olympics I’m going to watch in the next fortnight, my couch will be ****ed.
A good pouf can help.
This is what Trump supporters/defenders and love. IMO doesn't really say any good things about them.

1. Trump is a liar - fact!
2. Trump is a three time adulterer - fact!
3. Trump is a fraud and con - fact!
4. Trump is a convicted felon - fact!
5. Trump is a failed businessman (Steaks, planes, college, casinos, etc etc etc) - fact!
6. Trump stole from his own charity - fact!
7. Trump is awaiting trial on more charges and is desperate to be re-elected - fact
8. Trump is not doing anything for his supporters it is all about him - fact!
9. Trump standard response if he is close to anyone of dubious character (like him?) I hardly knew them -fact!

Happy for anyone to add to the list.
Maggie, facts don't matter to these folks.
It's more akin to religious belief, they love him, adulate him like a god. In return he validates their existence and he absolves them of their sins. When you are in the throngs of religious worship pesky 'liberal' facts mean nothing.

Just a regular criminal meeting with war criminal. Nothing to see here

Festerz, if some of these folks dropped their IQ 50 points they'd be in negative territory. I don't think that works.

Well I'm not a potential Mensa member myself so it's all relative I guess. Especially as IQ is generally believed to decline with age.

(Edit: Speaking of mensa reminds me of the time a recently graduated lawyer joined our staff and in the short bio all new staffers are required to put out on the company email list she actually listed her membership of mensa. You can imagine how that went down.)

Absolutely agree that context is important Chief.

But we aren't talking about someone who happens to believe in the power of crystals and dinosaurs and humans having coexisted heading up the accounts branch of the local council here.

These are serving US Senators and Members of Congress who are leading the MAGA domination of the US Republican movement and who not just believe but actively promote harmful conspiracy theories.

Not just crazy, but dangerously so.

How often do we see it? People just become dumber the more we see of them , JD fitting that description perfectly ;)
The dumbness has always been there. It's just that he was successful in keeping it hidden under a shallow veneer that was only revealed under the harsh spotlight of public scrutiny.

You know, just like that nasty little stain in the crease of your favourite sofa that only gets revealed when you list it on gumtree and the potential buyer takes it outside for a closer inspection.

He really should stop and think before he opens his mouth

He agrees MTG is a crazy batshit person

'' Hey JD thanks for having my back bro ''

Yes that was my point. It wasn't a defence of Green.
Of course not.

But my point was to acknowledge that JDV's pivot from the specific to the general WAS a defence of Greene (and her ilk within his party who hold similar views) and we shouldn't fall for it.

I love how triggered the Olympics made them
It's happening here too- a direct cut and paste of outrage from the US MAGA mob.

I linked the twitter post of that dimwit Victorian Senator Babet earlier but cop this...from the editor of the right wing Spectator Magazine:

That last one is special indeed. The opening ceremony of one of the most watched sporting events in the world this week - the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony is being removed from social media platforms not to protect the copyright protections of FTA and streaming broadcasters but to cover up the satanic evil subliminal messaging it included.

No more discussion on this because it is off topic but FFS.
