I saw a video today where Trump proposed that policy.

However...

In politics, sometimes you gotta fall into line or neutralise an opponent's policy, or line of attack. If both sides adopt the same policy, the outcome is neutral, politically. That's just politics, Donald.

Having said that, it's a super minor policy. It wouldn't move the needle for either candidate. My guess is that Kamala adopted it just to p!ss him off. And it worked, LOL!

This policy was announced some months ago by the Trump campaign and was credited with getting MAGA a bit of support in places like Las Vegas, where a large proportion of the population (especially the young) are in low paid hospitality jobs.

It's probably quite a clever policy politically. Won't cost that much (given a lot of tips probably aren't declared anyway) and at least benefits a group of the lower paid working public. Better than slashing taxes for the rich.

Harris has kinda acknowledged that it's a decent policy by adopting it herself. And thus removing it as an election issue. MAGA should feel flattered that they've come up with at least one good idea.

Someone told me years ago the IRS calculates how much you would earn in tips per hour and taxes you on that amount if your declared tips seem low to them.
