Blight has only just turned 23 so he is a very late birthdate from the 2019 draft crop. Key position players taken in that draft:
McAsey
S DeKoning
Worrell
Harrison Jones
Comben
Gollant
Riccardi(natural draft year 2017)
Nyuon
No key position players from the rookie draft even looked like making it. So super weak year for keys. And you would just about go as far as to say none of those keys from that draft year are fully established in a role yet. There are a few still trying to nail down a permanent role in one position. Those guys will on average be 6 or more months older than Blight as well. Sam DeKoning for eg is 9 months older than Blight and was omitted from the Cats finals teams last season.
My point with all of this is Blight doesn't necessarily need to "make it" this season, his first full season in the system at this level. He just needs to show he is not totally out of his depth, and keep adding dimensions to his game. You would have to think if he can survive 2025 & 2026 on the list he is likely to be a much more rounded player by 2027.
It seems he is strong enough and fit enough, so should be able to just focus on improving his skills and knowhow. When you see the extremely slim pickings available in KPP's in the 2019 draft, it would be a great fillip for us if we can get a KPP player up and about from that crop as a mature ager.

He has the skill set to make it does blighty, needs the belief to bring it to afl level . Can’t be clunking marks at VFL. Then at afl double fisted spoils to boundary , attack the bloody thing and do ya stuff , he ll get chances early , grab it by the horns JB
Early days yet.... Balta, Blight and Miller all have magificent rigs and skillsets.

noah can play anywhere, good problem to have
players that can run are handy when you have guys like Trainor and Smillie moving it causing chaos in transition
Blight can run to CHB when Smillie, Trainor, Balta whoever else get up the ground
sounds like having the right attitude and having a real dip at least!!
we have a few talls, but a lot of our talls can play a few roles so it does not mean a heap of talls will be squeezed out necessarily
we have a few talls that have a element of versatility. not all players are the same but versatility helps more versatility because it empowers our style to spin a few magnets at different times, in terms of the dynamic and to re-energize the team maybe, and gives us more options against different opposition mixes/setups

In the 2019 draft there were only about 8 key position players taken. So the recruiters knew it was light on for key position talent. Those taken top 30 were:
McAsey(6)
DeKoning(19)
Worrell(28)
Jones(30)
I did not count Georgiades as he is 192cm. But he went at 18.
In the 2024 draft there were around 19 key position players taken. There were also a load of guys 190-192cm's described as forwards or defenders I haven't included in the 19. Behind the first taken(Tauru) Richmond essetially took the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 6th picked of the key position players, in Faull, Trainor, Armstrong & Sims.
Our players were taken at picks 14, 21, 23, 28 - but in what is considred a very strong and deep draft. I would say we would reasonably expect to do better than DeKoning + Georgiades + Worrell + Jones with our crop, and those 4 are decent enough. As is Comben, who was taken at 31 in 2019.
If we have picked the right players from the crop then we should end up with about 2-3 very decent kpp's. Then obviously if any of the likes of 23yo Blight, 21yo Gibcus, 19yo Fawcett, 21yo Gray make it we should very quickly find ourselves with a surplus of young KPP's right when Tazzie is coming into the competition with a huge suite of high draft picks to offer. Not forgetting the presence of Balta, Miller, Lefau, Koschitzke & Young on our list and all in their mid 20's.
