I rate him as a better keep than Nank moving forward, but I can't say no to that deal.

Based on ladder positions this year we've done

Soldo + 50 for
41 + 49 + 25 (2024) + 76 (2024)

If 49 and 50 cancel each other out basically,

It's Soldo for 41 + 25 (2024) + 76 (2024)

Handy ruckman. Fearful he’ll be missed next year, particularly if anything happens to Nank.

Sucks that we rookied him, developed him, played him (premiershipped him) and now have lost him probably just as his best footy lies ahead.

Wonder what Port offered him?
That's true in a way, but we also turned a rookie pick into a premiership ruck and pick 41, a future 2nd likely in the top 30, and a future 4th which might have some value for upgrading next year for clubs that need points.

Close thread he’s gone

Really sad to see him go. Damn fine ruck who can be very good.

But with Ryan we have too many and Ryan has that KPF ability.

Decent pick return - especially if Freo suck in 2024 (please let it be so)

Soldo is a fine ruckman. Tallish, slowish and rightly or wrongly, behind the captain
at Richmond.

I guess Port see him as a no 1 ruck.

Ryan showed enough in his games to be no.2. And these days it's mostly KPFs as ruck depth across the league.
Finlayson played a lot of ruck as ports back up ruck.
We have Ryan, a good young ruck, and KPPs Miller, Kosi, Balta

It's good to see two clubs get together and work out a trade in the best interests of the player with both clubs benefiting.

Beats dealing with Mackie and Dodoro.

Good luck moving forward.

gotta say I am going to miss the big lug.... however he did lose a few brownie points because he was the one that crashed into gibcus in that leg tangle and maimed our boy gibbo. he will become top dog at Port and rightly so. good luck and thanks for your service.

Nank is way better than Soldo.

As Croat myself I've tried to be a Soldo fan but he's just so soft and takes f*** all pack marks, I'm actually rapt he's gone. I believe Ryan is already better than Soldo also.

Soldo will play half of next season in the SANFL, just watch.

i agree that nank is much better than soldo. soldo isn't bad for next in line but I guess we are hoping Ryan comes good this year anyway

our stoppage/clearance work by the midfielders is a much bigger area of concern than our ruckman. if the new coaching can get that right, we will be more than fine with nank and ryan for now.

that being said, I loved Soldo and sad to see him go either way

Losing Soldo is a terrible start to the Yze era.

We spent two precious first rounders last year acquiring mid-age midfielders, now we've given away the best hope we had of being successful with them, for chump change, like #1 rucks are easily acquired commodities worth nothing. Is Soldo's value really worth a fraction of Hopper's to us in the grand scheme of things?

What incoming coaching team reviews the Brisbane final, where Nank not only fails to take advantage of rucking for over a half against a barely part-timer, but also actively hits the ball to their most dangerous mid over and over again, then says, 'yep, that injury prone, suspension prone, battered warhorse who can still occasionally get off the ground is safe as houses to be all we need to challenge for the next few years, we don't need this bloke coming into his prime footy years who just went toe to toe with Gawn a few weeks back in by far the best performance by a Richmond ruck in a couple of seasons, we'll do fine without him'?

Or reviews the recent Dogs season killer game and the stark contrast to the stack of goals we got directly from the ruck the week before, then lets Soldo walk?

Or reviews the couple of games where Ryan played the #1 role, saw how far off doing it full-time for any significant part of a season he was, then lets Soldo walk?

Seriously, you start to question the football intelligence involved.

Not to mention the fact that trading is supposed to be about improving your list, while not giving your key rivals exactly what they need to succeed.

We just gave a top-4 side our best ruckman, to compliment their already better, younger midfield, for SFA in return!

To me, that's the definition of dumb trading, even if it was to facilitate a player's request!

Good luck to the big man, when the deck is that stacked against you, apparently even with a new coaching team, then you have to take your career elsewhere. :thumbsu:

If he stays fit, I fully expect he'll pick up another couple of flags with that Port list - and it will be downright painful watching him do it in the wrong colours, while we're more than likely at the wrong end of the ladder, knowing we never gave him a genuine crack at it.

I think he was never the same when the Fat Cat sat on him. Really sad bc at that stage he was shaping up to go past Nankervis. This trade needed to be done bc he would have been another slow member on our list. They all need to be phased out as Collingwood won a premiership with a list packed with pace money ball players and our game plan.
Soldo and Nakkers on Marvel was a hard watch for me. Wish him the best at Port and I think he will look a lot better than at Richmond as they have a faster and more skilled midfield than us.
