How long does it take a back stress fracture to repair anyway, and is it linked to his ACL?
I actually hope they can find a way to keep him if he's fixable. At 21, the upside is obvious.
I don't know much about list management, but from what I've read, we'd at least be looking to delist;
Lord
McBride
Stewart (pending signing of McKay/Himmelberg)

Surely that puts us in the frame to keep Hunter and give him time to demonstrate. The talent is there.

Depends on how severe it is, a minor one only needs probably a month's rest then can build back up which can take <insert unknown time here>. I'm assuming it wasn't too serious if they hadn't picked it up sooner, so the hope would be he's ready to go for a full preseason I'd assume. No need to rush him back for anything and gives him plenty of time to ensure it's 100% healed and rebuilt properly.

And I'd definitely be finding a list spot for him, he showed plenty from very limited VFL games.

I'd be disappointed if he was cut. Deserves at least another year on the list based on his work in the WAFL this year and his couple of VFL games.
Agree. Given it is an area of need for us and we liked him enough to pick him then I do not see why we would not keep him.

I'd keep him before Jones
I would keep both. Jones has had no luck with injury and has played stuff all VFL games to help him develop. His form this year and last year has more to do with his injury issues and lack of confidence more than a total lack of ability. He has actually only played 3 VFL games. Not sure that has been really good for his development.

That and those ridiculous scratch matches in 2020, although I don't think he played all of those either?

Oh I expect Jones to be here another 6 years regardless of form, Essendon fan and we traded up for him.

A bit of unknown and there was definitely glimpses of x factor in that WAFL match he kicked a bag against South Freo and even back then he was probably playing under duress. Like others I would prefer a proper look at him first and cut one of the guys that are known but won't take us that extra step.

Out of curiousity, are you also going to have a go at whoever has Georgedis next year, or North sticking with Comben, etc.? Or is it just EFC that will be potted for keeping young injured talls around?

I see some people in their predictions have Hunter as being delisted. I don't think he should be.
  1. He is still able to be retained as a rookie.
  2. Has shown a greater scope for improvement compared to Voss (or Weiderman  )
  3. Has already caught the eye of our recruiting staff. Will likely be more highly ranked than the rookie selection that we would get in return.
  4. EFC has a history of extending MSD selections.
  5. He showed a lot in his couple of VFL games and adjusted to the team dynamics/level quickly.
  6. Plays a position that we are desperately looking for - as Jones is not a certainty.
  7. Is a good age to fit with the solid U22 group moving forward.
  8. ?

All exceptionally good points and huge reasons why I hope we keep him. Would actually have some developing calls at VFL level if he is retained.

Hunter, Weidemann, Jones and the possibility of a 2nd ruck/fwd to add as well. Exciting times

Ive been high on wanting a key forward with an early selection but Hunter's very few glimpses have me as excited as any young key tall we've had in some time. Even more so than Jones.

Would be bitterly disappointed if we moved him on. In saying that, it would be very Dodoro to keep him, move him to the LTI list so we can add a SSP selection and then try and re integrate him into the senior side by end of next year in hope he comes on quickly.

What may he lose through his injury? speed? mobility? power?

Really looking forward to seeing him as a new draftee next year if he is afforded another year. Would be a nice little bonus if he does come on and play a few games. The other mid year draftees this year played some games.

If it's a bog standard stress reaction / fracture with no further complications, probably nothing beyond a bit of time and conditioning lost through rehab, which isn't that hard to rebuild in a full-time football environment.
