Player Watch #5: Brandon Ellis - off to GC pick 39 as compo

Brando is our best defensive runner to those that may not realise
he has been one of Hardwicks unsung heroes.

Dimma often lets him off the leash early... we like to set up a lead and hold it and draw away in the last.......gives Brando his pine time mid 2nd and mid 3rd. often plays 88+ mins GT which is obscene.

Early or sometime in the second and all of 3rd he's on he gets Brando into a more dour, spare back, block outside avenues to oppo goals etc etc... go into lockdown in dangerous space 60 metres boundary side of the play so oppo teams are forced to risk the corridor where our hyenas are in pounce mode etc etc...very similar pattern most weeks and part of our system getting/keeping the game on our terms .... and in the last it usually, get on his bike again with your superior endurance and gut run and link and run from back pocket to forward 50 like a man possessed mopping up and monitoring dangerous Gaff, Cluggage and Ablett types like a quiet achiever....Naish, Balta, Pickett, Stack, Ross, Turner may end up handy or even stars but won't be a Brando in 2020 unless he goes.
he's also important for the get-out kick from defence. Works his ass off to find a little space to relieve the pressure.

Friday night was probably the best game he's ever played. I cant remember him panicking once which is highly unusual.

Mate seriously what the hell have you been smoking tonight , If you want to go back and have a look i actually posted that he had a great night and played well so WTF ???

In earlier posts i have also posted that Ellis has been a good servant to the club and has played well but i would let him go to get the pick and save the $$$ but nothing against him as a person or a player (even though he does avoid any body contact)

FMD if you want to see my Toxic side go and read the bloody ben lemon thread as this is nothing.
Now regarding Club rooms i have been a fair few and never had an issue but more than happy to tell one of my team mates to grow some balls when he avoided contact .
Don't read a lot of your posts so forgive me if i misquote you but after having Brando as replacable as a pair of jeans...your've been bragging and hoping he wins the Norm Smith just to make sure we maximise a draft selection and its pretty obvious to most that Brando will stay for unders but would be crazy if we're talking in millions. Yet you would rather make a cheap joke would love to hear you shout out something similar in a pre-game clubroom situation....you wouldn't but you're still entitled to your opinion but walk the walk if you're gunna talk the talk mate coz GC ain't offering 3 million to a squib, who cracks under pressure but can run for a long time ;) and couldn't give a rats about BL thread except it's almost fact that the majority of football internet trolls have fake profile/s and the worst ones wouldn't be able to get a kick in a stampede.

Mate just make a thread with a poll , Should we match Ellis offer or not and deal with it
cant be bothered with such a nothing player

spot on...and often he is ignored in these situations which i believe is part of the masterful plan as it draws out opposition players from their preferred setups and leaves them in no mans land. but still a viable option.

He definitely has some positive attributes but do those but is the total package greater than Macca/Ross/Pickett ? does it add more to the team?

you write well but you have still failed to convince me. Lets us hope he has a big game - the way things look with the great GWS mid batting depth it seems Ellis could be a key focal point of the game (lol)

im guessing DeBoar and Perryman dont go to Ellis ...

your poll has no merit because a lot of trolls have multiple accounts, also its obvious we wont be matching anything over 450 a year would be my guess

brando and everyone knows he aint worth more than lambert, astbury, types and houli has just signed for unders, and that our young talent needs to be looked after in future contracts...i believe he deserves around 475 but will be offered around 400 which is fine with me and would love him to stay but anything around 600 from rivals and good luck to him whatever happens

club has high morals and outstanding culture, there will be no bad blood or feelings.

You dont pay a bottom 6 player $400k when you have the following players on these salaries

$1.2 mi - Dusty
$950k - Lynch
$850k - Cotchin
$700-$750k - Rance , Riewoldt , Prestia
$400k - $450k Grimes , Vlastuin , Lambert , Edwards

Something has to give and that will be players like Ellis/Kmac/Butler etc

fair and reasonable points, salaries are front and back loaded so tigs might agree with a halfway deal as its not your normal contract negotiation, i doubt tigs will offer anything over their budget as it sends a bad precedent for the cubs.

i have always thought and still do, that as we have a few WA boys we unlikely to keep em all if big offers from the west are put on the table over next 2-3 years.

Brandon Ellis could leave Richmond as a dual premiership player, with the wingman agreeing to join Gold Coast.
Ellis, a restricted free agent at season’s end, had attracted interest from a handful of Melbourne-based clubs, but has settled on the Suns.
It’s understood the deal is for five years at about $600,000 a season — a contract thought to be just under the threshold that would deliver the Tigers a first-round compensation pick.
There is a slim chance Ellis could stay at Punt Road, given free agency rules allow Richmond to match any rival offer.
But, barring any unforeseen list changes, that is considered extremely unlikely as Ellis seeks greater financial security.

Free agent Brandon Ellis to walk out on Richmond for Gold Coast after Grand Final

Brandon Ellis will play his last game for Richmond in the Grand Final, with the gut-runner to walk out on the Tigers for a new club. We reveal where he’ll play in season 2020.

Ellis, 26, has played 175 games in eight years at Richmond, but Saturday’s Grand Final will almost certainly be his last after he met with Suns officials during the year.

Carlton had courted the gut-runner for much of the season before suddenly withdrawing its interest, while St Kilda and Essendon had also made inquiries.

Ellis remained coy on his future on Monday.

“As I said at the start of the year, I’m just going to put it on hold until after the season’s done and after hopefully being lucky enough to play in a Grand Final,” Ellis said.

“The club’s been awesome and they’ve supported me through everything that has sort of being thrown at me this year

“I will hopefully have something sorted in the next couple of weeks.”

Ellis won’t be the only one out the door at Richmond as the Tigers continue to refresh their list.

Dan Butler, who managed only seven senior games this year, has met with rival clubs, including the Blues.

Premiership ruckman Shaun Grigg and Mav Weller have announced their retirements, while Connor Menadue is out of contract.

Timing of this story is pretty shit, loved how he has played the past 2 finals games and he will be missed but let's face it he isnt worth 600k a year in our list and we could replace him quite well.

1st round pick is bloody great. All the best Brando hope we can send you off with a win.

The article states the offer falls short of a 1st round pick but the thing with richmond is that it doesnt have to be a band 1 pick from what i understand

e.g
Crows finish 11th = Pick #8
band 1 pick will be pick #9
Band 2 would be pick #19

Tigers finish 1st = Pick 18
band 1 pick #19+
Band 2 pick #19 also

If GC get a PP then band 2 would be pick #20
