It sounds like it will be a very simple swap of SPS for 52. Then that will be on traded for Lewis Young, although we are trying to get him for 64.
Very disappointing, but this is not Austin's fault.
Both the club and SPS have let themselves down over the last 2-3 years. His value is at an all time low and he was the first to have his papers stamped by the incoming bosses. He was is not viewed in a positive light with those pushing the new culture shift. I guess this says a bit.
Hopefully for him he gets his attitude right. Will be hard to watch him blossom at another club, but it would be a huge shame to see his talent completely go to waste.
I respectfully disagree with your post.

I don't recall anything negative having been formally said about his attitude.

In any case, even if there was a negative assessment made internally, one which would hopefully remain internal, the issue moves to maximising the outcome for CFC, rather than justifying compromise benefiting the interests of another club

Another poster made a really good point that Teague deciding to play him at half back may have been because after seeing him day in day out, Teague thought he didn’t have the attributes to make it as a half forward\midfield type.
If you couple that with the fact that Samo couldn’t shine under not one, but two coaches despite getting lots of chances to prove himself, then maybe it’s less of a case of Carlton not developing the player and more so a case of the player not being able to step up.
Either way I’d like to revisit this in 12-24 months of seeing Samo play at a different club before I’m willing to sh!t can our development program.

without pushing the mismanagement bit too far, and I know it is a stretch, I suppose I’m just referencing the fact that over a decade we got nothing for Waite, Eddie Betts who became the best small in the game and now probably SPS. There is a chance it happens with LoB as well.

With Teague, I’m torn. Dow, SPS and LoB. All good picks, all suffer from just not applying themselves hard enough. Is that all three aren’t up to it or did Teague set up a strucutre that allowed those players to coast. Allowing Marc Murphy to play suggests his culture level was pretty low.

It’s not whether a LoB or SPS is good enough. It is about did they do a Kruezer and show huge intent and hardness. No they didn’t. That bit has to rest with Teague a little.

Cant balme Austin for SPS demanding a trade - cant blame Voss either who apparently tried to get SPS to change his mind...
you can blame Teague and his mob though..we had a smashingly good pick 6 in hsi first year onlky to turn into a scared rabbitt by teh time Teague finished with him.

You can blame Austin when we get bent over at the trade table and accept big time unders.

Just like you can blame list management over the past twelve months for
  • Decimating our list of key position players and not replacing them
  • Bending over to Dodoro in the Saad trade
  • Paying Zac Williams massive overs to play a position he had only ever played sparingly or as injury cover
So far Fogarty and now Hewett are ticks but they fail in comparison to his failures

Don't know how much truth there is to this, but apparently he's gone to WA and is refusing to come back?
If it is true then it says a lot about him.
Come back for what?? He is from WA, has no Victorian contract and will be playing in WA. What would he be refusing to come back to? Pick up the hoody and pair of trainers left in his locker...

Is this view shared by people at the club also?

IINM refusing to go back on decision to leave is a strategy used by footy managers. From a distance, he seems like a respectful individual. It wouldn't surprise if any such communication was designed and or delivered by someone other than him.

My opinion.

The review praised list management.

I feel that this praise was accumulative and included draftees as far back as the 2015 draft.

Why are King and Montagna in raptures about the state of our list? They were going on and on last night about how we are in the sweet spot?

The decimating of the list of key position players was getting rid of blokes like Goddard and BSOS and others who were deemed to not be going to make it. Didn't particularly hurt us this year (fortunately Jones and Weitering got through) despite the replacement OMac getting injured. What we actually need is potential replacements that will not make us significantly worse if they were to play. The ones that we had stockpiled previously couldn't do that. Maybe Lewis Young helps out there

I don't get peoples obsession about winning trades. Melbourne were told that they overpaid with two firsts for Lever. Best to look back after to see how the trade works out. Saad had a good season and will be a huge weapon if we can get more midfield support for our defence (e.g. George Hewitt)

If west coast were only offering pick 52 for sps and we were accepting it wouldn't the deal be done by now? Let's see how it plays out.

The only way to look at how a club fares at a trade/draft period is to look at their overall strategy and outcomes. If we can end up with Cerra, Hewitt, Young and a couple of mid range draft picks whilst not diluting our hand for the 2022 draft and only losing sps then that would be a fantastic outcome. One that would make us a significantly better team in 2022.

Oh come on, he can come back to being locked up 10 hours a day, go nowhere, eat no where or spend 10 hours a day on some beach in WA, so selfish.

Weitering. Walsh. Cripps. McKay. Charlie Curnow. Jones. Silvagni. Plowman. Martin. Fisher. Kennedy. De Koning. Cunners. Owies. Potential of Dow and others. All in or entering their prime.

All but two of those acquired under SOS.

Saad and Williams too though the price we paid was steep. Now Hewett and hopefully Cerra.

If we rise next year watch our current list management get the kudos for it when the bulk of the work was done previous.

Its not about winning trades. Rather, its about not loosing them. Most clubs set out to trade in good faith so that each receives a fair and reasonable return, Pick 52 is not fair by any reasonable standard. Even the media scribes who often take a position contrary the CFC think its substandard, The more this happens the greater the likelihood it will continue to happen in future, Its not just about this trade here and now.

Who cares who gets the credit for it. We've been down too long to worry about the semantics. We need to come good. Now.

SOS did some great things. I was in Mexico when the 2015 draft went down and remember being blown away. He was a great negotiator. He also blew a few picks both at gws and Carlton.

But the thing is there us no need to worry about sos's legacy at Carlton. It is set in stone. Sos would be the last person to worry about this as well.

But it hasn't happened yet. It might and I would think that it was unders. If 52 was all that they had offered and we thought that it was acceptable wouldn't the deal be done?

Wondering prior to this year, if Demon supporters had similar concerns spending capital (picks and salary) bringing in the likes of Lever and May. Things change quickly and with that, the perception of players and list management

Completely different scenarios.

Lever was named in the 40-man All-Australian squad as a 21 year old and had been earmarked as future club captain, etc. before Melbourne traded for him.

May was a co-captain at Gold Coast and was heralded as one of the best key position players on the competition before Melbourne traded for him.

Comparing those acquisitions to paying huge money and assets in trade and free agency for two half backs, one of which you could only hope could transition into the role you had earmarked him to play, is rather asinine.
