Pick fit players only. Players who have been out for a while should come back through the magoos.

How many times have we seen these sorts of selections fail? Most times. Most recent example was Chads first game back. Don't do it.

Really dumb thing to say.

Maybe i'll look silly and he'll be amazing if he plays, but we've had a bad run this year recalling players that have returned from sizeable layoffs. Hopefully it's just Williams messing with opposition.

It's not like Shaun was tearing it up prior to getting injured.

it's not just the decision to play him that's bad (probably), it also how he explained it.

the players need drilled into their heads that they're just one player in a team. mark makes it abundantly clear that some players are more equal than others.

History shows players coming back after a long lay off is that they play pretty well in that first game back, because they are running on adrenaline.

It is the 2nd and 3rd week back that they play crap because they are sore, their muscles are tight after being extended for the first time after such a long rest, they have burnt a lot of energy and adrenaline in the first game back and are pretty flat

Regardless of when he last played, the cows are going to have to place a good player on him and it means that perhaps other mids will get a little more space. Could also give him some time up forward where he could do a bit of damage.

Choco is right.

Shaun's output would still be higher than that krakouer, lower or broadbent

That would be true if Shaun could give 100% effort for 50% game time but surely even that is in doubt. I think it's too much of a risk to play him. If they think he's only going to play half a game then it should be for the maggies.

Here in lies the plan i say there is no way on gods earth they wouldn't put a good player on shaun and that will take some heat off pearce. And if they didnt he would be liable to tear them a new one. So if you were coaching what would you do?? ( thats a question to everyone)

Spot on.

I know this myself coming back from injury. You tend to concentrate more, you're mentally fresh and excited.

It's the week after that we have to worry about.

He won't have the match fitness. Choco's acknowledged he might only be on the field for 50% of the game. I'll lay odds it's less. While he's off other players will get tagged. In addition other midfielders will have to spend longer on the ground to make up for Juniors extended bench time therefore they will be more tired in the last quarter when the game may be won and lost.

Come back through the magoos.

Even though I understand what he says should it really be made public. If we took Davenport for example, which has come out doubts hismelf a fair bit, what if he made way to Shaun, how would that help his self confidence.

I guess is there an easy way of saying it to a player? Probably not.

Not a chance in hell Davenport will be out for Shaun this week after last weeks game but I'm not sure that your actually saying this will happen or if it's just an example....

I remember Buckley coming back in th egame against Sydney after 10 weeks off and dominating and doing very little against us the next week back in 2005.

I dunno, I just think you shouldnt come out and say those sorts of things.

If I was Broadbent etc. Id be thinking 'yeah gee thanks for the vote of confidence coach'.

Remember Cousins' first game back for WCE, brilliant!

I am not so much concerned about Shaun coming back but more the messages that are being sent to our players with such statements. There is really no need to say that Shaun at 50% is better than anyone else at 70%. Why not just say Shaun will come back in if fit and we look forward to what he adds to our team.

No need to even mention other players.

who said shaun is unfit? if he's not fit, he won't play.

players like broadbent would surely understand that players of shaun's calibre and standing within the club would take precendence even if he didn't come back via the sanfl.

You said that choco was right and Shaun's output would be STILL BE HIGHER than Krakouer etc etc.

That sounds as if you are saying that an unfit Shaun would give the side greater output than the three you mentioned.

Playing unfit players is bad for the player concerned and the team.
