Trouble is he is not a Ferrari and you do not need a tractor to play a team game. I am not talking about the grunt work. I am talking about making an effort to defend and work in the zone where they want him to. If Sheil can do it then why not Merritt ?
Exactly how is Merritt a Ferrari ? He has had some very good games but how often would you say he won us a game ? Do not get me wrong , at his best he is good and he likes to lay tackles and get involved but he is not a regular super star match winner. Ferrari is Dustin Martin level. When you are that good you do not need to defend as chances are you are likely to win the game yourself. Right now he is not even getting a regular tag like he did in the past.
Dustin Martin is a Ford Mustang but not the new one.

I have given him some stick but that is the level he needs to be at if he is not going to defend all that well. To complete his game he has to be either today's player or in the weeks he is not he need to put the head down and do the team stuff.

$1000 for a dangerous tackle. I rekon it would be the one where the commentators lauded him for his tackle in the defensive 50.

In a year that means sweet **** all (unless we win it all) the AFL are really making me not want to even bother.

Has shirked three contests so far this game.

Does not look interested at all for some reason tonight.
I wasn’t going to say it but I thought he shirked the first contest he was involved in, just after first centre bounces..

Last week he was hunting with intent again, his week he looks like he’d rather be elsewhere.

Did like his (fair) comment to the ump after the htb free kick against McGrath. "You're having a mare"
Wasn't even mad he gave away the 50. Lyons was going to kick the goal anyway

35 possessions for no impact.

Did almost nothing with the ball.

As ant555 has been saying for a while now Merrett has gone from a damaging kicking player to a hunter of cheap possessions.

He's been completely Essington'd.

Yep a real spud is our Zac
