His effort to work both ways is insane, his last quarter in particular I couldn’t believe. Watching on TV you just wished they had a camera following only him around although in fairness he seemed to get to every contest anyway. Real “come with me if you want to live” areas with him at the minute, combined with his pornographic ball use, oh and he’s started kicking goals a little more regularly which is a pleasant change. Have loved the little fella for a long time but he’s gone to a level I didn’t think was possible and has to be a genuine top 5-10 player right as we stand.

With Heeney likely suspended for an off the ball, non footballing action

Zac Merrett is firmly on Brownlow watch now after another 3 votes this round
Honestly if he gets done for that...

I try to think about it if our best player got rubbed out for it. If Zach was done for that I'd be pissed.

Most pundits are going with it, id say its a big chance. Although the superstar tax probably sees him get a fine
I don't care if it's a chance. It shouldn't be a suspension.

This is why he is the captain.

I'm going to be that guy; that was the wrong play by Merrett. He need to grab the ball take a step or two and kick over the wall Collingwood had made and at least give us a chance to run onto the ball or cause a stoppage, instead he turned it over and we were lucky WHE stuffed up the kick.

Doesn't take away from the absolute masterful game he played though! :)

Didnt WHE stuff up the kick because Merrett followed up to apply pressure? I think thats what was great about that passage of play, its not that he did anything "correct", its that he kept going and following up to impact the next play, thats why he was out on his feet afterwards.
The Fox Footy guys mentioned after the game that he only had 1 possession last 10 minutes but his player ranking went up because of how many pressure acts he had.

Maybe, it's a kick he really should have made as he had enough time, so it is likely that the perceived Merrett pressure had an effect.
Merrett's 2nd and 3rd (and 4th and 5th) efforts all night were fantastic

He set the tone with follow up efforts and a number of guys lifted in this department too. Jones missing a shot at goal then nailing a pies guy and getting HTB. Martin putting in a sloppy kick on the back flank but following up and toe poking ahead of Sidebottom and giving the handball off to Merrett in the corridor.
Im really loving that about our season, its not always the cleanest or prettiest footy but theres just a resolve in the playing group I havent seen for a while. Really reminds me of the tigers when they first turned it around.
