We didn't lose because Ziebell wasn't out there.

Last night even if we had wayne carey we would still have lost by 6 goals. It was a typical essendon choke that we even got that close.

Most people would agree it was reckless to do what he did to Riewoldt, but they tried to find a positive within that negative situation. If you asked them if they'd prefer he didn't do it I'm sure 99% would say yes. Not much point making a thread about it.

He is the natural leader of this team - he makes blokes walk taller.

That statement of intent had to be made even if it cost us a win last night.

Loved the hit on Riewoldt last year, was the only one who wasn't going to stand idly by while our season slipped away.

Ended up catching him high and now he and the team are paying the price, but his willingness to make that statement is what sets Jack apart and above many others on the team.

OP is spot on.

+1 from me.

It's one thing to make your presence felt, it's another thing to redicously get yourself suspended that is costly to the team later.

To those that think that he wouldn't have made any difference last night, what a lot of baloney!

A few people have said this, im a little perplexed tbh.

We were smashed at the clearances, why wouldnt our best hardnut, big bodied mid and arguably best player not make a difference. I wouldve thought it much harder for Essendon to dominate us if JZ were there. We cant say he wouldve been the difference, but ive no doubt it would help a lot.

That and having our best tap ruckman at more stoppages wouldve heldped massively. We lost by a kick, they had 7 more scoring shots yes but smashed us 26-40 in clearances and many of those were quality that hurt, resulting in 13 more I50s.

Adding Ziebell is not going to automatically ensure we win the contested ball stats. We got smashed by a bunch of kids against the dogs in that area with Ziebell in the team. Something is seriously amiss with our stoppage work.

The biggst what if is what if Essendon kicked straight.

Agreed it doesnt mean we'll win clearance stats, but it surely helps if your better contested ball winners are actually playing. Even if we narrow the clearance loss to 30-36 that'll mean less I50s, less shots at goals, they wouldve had to have kicked straight to win.

We definitely need work in this area, simply cant be flogged like that and expect to win games. It was a strength not so long ago, we were known as a strong inside team....frustrating.

Feel free to bastardise existing works or come up with your own.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
When the ball hits the deck
Jack's coming for you

And

Shall I compare thee to a Ziebell bump?
Thou art far less brutal and injurious

Jack Ziebell awoke before dawn
He put his boots on
He took a striped jumper from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where the match review panel lived
And then he paid a visit to Paul Roos
And then he walked on down the hall
And he came to a door
And he looked inside
Chris Judd? Yes son. I want to kill you.
Nick Riewoldt... I want to... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Our Jack, whose art is bumping,
Ziebell be his Name.
Our Jack will come.
You will be dumped on earth,
then back to the pavillion.
Play in this game with fear and dread.
As you will end up on your arses,
And get used to being on your arses against us.
And lead us to the premiership
As our Captain Jack Ziebell
Now as our old King done

The power, and the glory,

For ever and ever.

Amen.

1,2. Jacks's Coming for You!
3,4, Better sidestep that ball
5,6. He'll slam it through the sticks!
7,8. Dont procrastinate
9,10 Never Sleep Again!

Apologies to Dorothea Mackellar

I love a sunburnt Ziebell
A man of sweeping kicks
Of vicious shirtfront bumps
And dainty handball flicks

I love his committed contest
I love his long right foot
His space and time in all the world
Jack Ziebell - he's the best

I have a pathological aversion to Sylvia Plath, but really, someone needs to do Ziebell Jar

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message
He is Dead.
Because Jack Ziebell ****ed him up,
Bitch.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever:
I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun,
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are having theirs split open and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when washed up former coaches doubt you,
But make allowance for their senile doubting too;
If you can wait for broken bones to mend and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about on Big Footy, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated on Bay 13, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too metrosexual, nor talk to wise:

If you can dream of premierships - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think of tactics - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by Caro to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the club you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build it up with worn-out tools:

If you can sledge moronic opponents and keep your virtue,
Or walk with King Carey - nor lose the common touch,
if neither run with foes nor taggers can hurt you,
If all team mates count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving time on minutes
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the AFL and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

My roses are red,
surrounded by seashells.
But never mind that,
How good is Jack Ziebell!?

There were murmurs at the draft table, for the word had passed around
That the colt from old Wodonga was still in play,
to join the boys at Arden Street - he was worth three high first rounds,
and the good judges all knew that he could play.

Norths tried and noted judges had admired him from afar
and had mustered at the draft overnight,
For the shinboners love hard bastards where the wild bush footballers are,
And Jack Ziebell snuffs the battle with delight.
