I try to keep my criticism of Howie to a minimum to avoid it becoming a hobby horse, but I'd love it if he stoppped referring to his fellow commentators as ''the great man'' or great man''. It sort of comes across to me as if he's in awe of the people he's working with.

Because he probably is in awe of them.

The one that annoys me from Howie is 'The King' for Warne. A bit too thorough a ball-washing for my liking.

Everyday life for delcons.

I am no delcon thanks and you should know that or do you only selectively read comments?

I seriously do not see how calling a batsman "a batter" will make women feel more positive towards Cricket, they either like it or they don't.

Been swapping between both. Like the ability of having choice.
Fox is better if I missed some play and want to rewind back stream to see bits I missed.
7 has Mel Mc and Tim Lane which is good for different reasons.

Regarding the merit of people in the broadcast booth. Women's international cricket is comparable to A-grade local cricket. Maher is along time player and has a good record at this level. So when he commentates with Mel Jones and Lisa Sthalekar for instance, he is legitimately the best player in the booth.
You think Womens cricket is at Premier League Grade cricket level? I would say it is 3rd Grade standard with "maybe" a couple of second graders thrown in.

Now I do not have Fox either. As for 7...why oh why did they get Slater..he is shitful. Katich is a huge disappointment adds nothing to the commentary. No Healy thank goodness for that. Ponting I usually like but he talks way too much..good insight but just over the top. The rest are ok except the bird that the big WI made a pass at. She also adds nothing to cricket. The rest I can live with. When Slater comes on I turn the Volume OFF. Katich the same.

Shane Warne had a chat show that disappeared off our TV screens in pretty quick order, and yet for some reason he thinks we're all crying out for him to commentate as if he were hosting a chat show.

I still miss Chappelli, I can understand why Fox and Ch7 didn't pick him up as he's close to his use by date but he still offers a point of difference to the younger generation of commentators.

I heard him doing radio commentary during the lunch breaks and his analysis of the game is still pretty sharp and you have the added bonus of hearing all his old stories from the 70s about Dougie Walters and Rod Marsh which are far more interesting than hearing Slater and Fleming's stories from the 90s.
The lack of Les Favell anecdotes on tv these past two summers has been disappointing in the extreme.

I prefer Ch7's coverage mainly due to Ponting, much easier to listen to than Warne as he doesn't wafflle on with the self indulgent nonsense Warne does.

Ponting just calls it like he sees it with no biases or grudges, he's not an Aussie cheerleader like Healy or Slater, refreshing for an Aussie commentator.

At a mates yesterday so stuck on 7 since he doesnt have Fox. 7 spent 2+ hours talking about Smiths gloves. Even after a change in commentary team, they continued ad nauseam. How anyone chooses 7 over Fox is beyond me...

Loved Skull's Arbishop Desmond Tutu comment. I would agree that Ricky Ponting, as knowledgable as he is, talks a bit too much. You could also argue he's overexposed as he's on air for 5 of 9 commentary rotations 7 have per day.

Lot of positives there lol

Any coverage with Slats is a no go for me. Love M Vaughan, he's a gun, as is Junior and Isa, along with Kerry. Gilly and Hussey also brilliant. Cant stand Ch 7's poor picture quality and those bloody ads. Shane is Shane, annoying but provides a laugh and knows his shit.

Not sure where else to put this, but somehow didn't hear about this story until now:

Aussie star Mark Howard had some explaining to do after sensitive images were hacked from his phone and distributed to his contact list, including cricketing stars around the world.
The popular cricket caller revealed on Friday night "explicit" photos were taken from his phone and sent against his will to Australian test captain Tim Paine, Big Bash slugger Chris Lynn and star commentator Isa Guha, among others.
"All I will say is I got a message from the UK, saying, 'Howie, is this you sending me this particular video'. And I said, 'No, don't answer it'.
"I got a message from Isa Guha. I got an email from Chris Lynn. I got a message from Tim Paine telling me, 'Why are you sending me this stuff, Howie?'
"I've got to say Chris Lynn didn't say anything he hadn't said to me before.
