I'm willing to say Brendon Julian has had the worst commentary performance in history tonight. He struggles to tell a skyed ball from a 2nd tier six when he's at the ground, further handicapping him by having him call off a screen resulted in an absolute disaster.

He had no idea what was happening for any ball that went in the air.
Thats been the case a lot of times with Fox commentators. For the Strikers v Hurricanes match at Adelaide where they clearly had no idea where the high balls were going, and you'd swear they were commentating off a screen. But then the game finished, and we had them presenting on the ground.

Nothing to do with either channel but Mark Richardson had a mare on TVNZ during the ODI between New Zealand and Sri Lanka, suggesting that Australia's 70% record in ODI matches at the SCG is a nod go Nathan Lyon. The same Nathan Lyon who has played 2 ODI matches at the SCG.

And never taken a wicket there. And lost one of the two games there 😂

This is up there with the Kerry stat the other day

how did this even come up, and are we sure he didn't mean Tests?

They were talking about ODI matches. They showed a table ranking teams on their home records at their strongest home venues. South Africa were top with an 82% winning record at Newlands, Australia were about 4th with a 70% winning record at the SCG, which was Australia's top entry on thst table. Mark Richardson thought they were talking about Tests, hence the Nathan Lyon reference buy they weren't.

Andy Maher was on comms with former England women's cricketer Alex Hartley and former White Fern Katey Martin when Andy claimed old mate who caught a six one handed looked like Adam Cooney. Talk about leaving your colleagues flummoxed.

Unfortunately the excellent Alison Mitchell is in tennis mode now.

If I was 7, I'd be looking at getting Katey Martin on board full time instead of working for both TVNZ & 7.

During the Strikers/Heat game last night, Fox attempted to convince people they were at the ground by showing a "shot" of the commentary box in the stands.

Was some of the worst CGI you will ever see
It’s worse when they try to cover it up. As dodgy as it is, it’s all power to the broadcaster to do it how they like but don’t take us for fools and try to make it look like you’re at the ground. Wear it and get on with it. The commentators always try far too hard to act like they’re present as well.

Found it

Unfortunately can't seem to screen record kayo on PC. But around 2h43m15s into the Strikers/Heat game yesterday. Would love if someone can find a way to capture and upload it here.

recorded off the tv with phone, I don't think I captured the volume though.

She did the last WAshes for 7 so I’m surprised why she’s not doing this one too. I guess the Tennis pays better than 7 🤷‍♂️

She is promoting the series still

Gilly seems to get away with being pretty hopeless. Should get the same flak Shane Warne rightly got for letting personal feelings cloud judgment.

Always the first one to go after Cummins when the top order bombs out. And rather than just calling a blatantly straightforward wicket, he butchers a great moment with vibe-killing wishful thinking:

Nothing special by JB but still 10x better (albeit with help from Ricky Ponting):

Ultimately what you get now is the potential of one good commentary team split apart into two mediocre teams. Problem is recent history (i.e. the end of the Ch9 era) suggests the alternative might be an assembly of the worst of both worlds.

This is how the other great, dramatic, last ball of the day, was called by Richie Benaud back in the day, with a nice little contribution by (I think) Simon O'Donnell - "he'll hear that sound for the rest of the night".

Sounded more like Greg Chappell to me

My main issues with the Fox broadcast are

1. Not being at the grounds in the BBL. It bloody shows. When they hit a ball in the air and they clearly don't know how well they actually got onto or if there's a fielder in the general area, so they're stalling in their speaking with vageries like "Has he got onto iiiiiiit" waiting for the camera to confirm it is so amateur. Yeah, has he got onto it, as the camera shows it going 15 rows back. Maybe if you were there you'd have known instantly.

2. They're way too matey in their chats and think they're the stars - it's been mentioned before. Another part of it that jars me with it is when they post social media clips of the commentary highlights of the three in there cacking themselves laughing at some lame double entendre someone just said. No one gives a shite about your "commentary highlights" and no one thinks you're edgy because you found a way to use the word ball in a funny way.

I just like the more traditional style of broadcast from 7, they get the balance right for me, while Fox is like the ADHD broadcast. Constant talking, constant graphics, constant analysis on bat swing speed, arm speed, stickmen over the bodies... just constant stimuli. The ads don't move the needle for me as most of the time there's nothing to bother replaying, and they can break things up.

Also, 7 is about 30 seconds ahead of Fox/Kayo. I guess because streaming is slightly slower than TV broadcasting.

yeah, this "bat speed, ball speed in/out" really doesn't add anything to the coverage to me.

I originally voted for Fox in the above poll but now I've changed to Seven. I feel like Fox is heading towards a Channel Nein style inside jokes/talk crap/try and be funny type broadcast, while Seven are more focused on the cricket.

Fox's BBL coverage has also been a tough watch this season. I genuinely had to switch to Seven for a match a couple of weeks ago when Howie and Chris Lynn were commentating because they were talking so much crap. It was the match where Howie rang up Mark Waugh for some reason. Then on other nights you have Brendan Julian saying "OHHHH IT'S UP IN THE AIRRRR" 50 times a game when it's about 30 ****ing rows back because he can't judge a high ball, no matter whether he's commenting from a screen or even at the ground. I even prefer Jason Richardson on Seven now! At least they are usually on the ground.

Shane Watson

Alyssa Healy

Skull

Brad McNamara producer

Because Brad McNamara is the producer and he just hires all his mates.

He was at 9 towards the end when their commentary started going down the gurgler.

Spot on Guy.

Am i wrong in thinking brad had a burner twitter account or something too? if wrong i apoligise.

im also feeling that steve okeefe was also in the box one time as well.
