kinda split with my feelings about this....goddards been our most consistant player over his time at essendon....there was times this season i saw the game getting hard for brendon and so i feel maybe its a good time but im sad also cause we was a warrior...and stuck by essendon so i tend to think maybe another season....but i understand and respect the over all decision....redman was looking real good in the games he played and ridley will be a star i think....and franga....hes special and could be anything...reminds me of a young rance....these boys have to play and obviously some players have to make room...ty brendon for the stella career at the bombers...never frgotton

i’m a little torn here.

on the one hand, love BJ and can not fault him one bit during his time here and wish he’d go on for another year.

on the other, pretty pleased at the club for making the right, bold move to not offer him another year.

#HoldMe

Same here, it would have been good to have kept him but it was becoming increasingly clear that BJ had lost a yard of pace and the worst thing we could have done was expose him to going out with everyone saying he stayed a year too long.

Thanks BJ for all you have done.

For all you Melbournites, why don't you come on over Fri night and give him a send off with your Adelaide Bomber friends?

It's not like there won't be available tickets. Unless Port decide to dust off the tarps.
i just got back from SA today. i timed my weekends poorly. missed the tiges game and won't be at the power game.
a little disappointed i won't see BJ in the red and black (even liked it with a bit of white in his early days).

Been a fantastic player for us for a long time.

When your pace has dropped well below standard these days its time to go. The right decision by the club.

I think we all appreciate the strong leadership he showed when the suspensions put us down in the abyss.

Personality wise hes not everyones cup of tea but hes played many great games for this club and earnt his dough.

We doing ads before videos on the website now are we?
Just watching it now and Jesus Christ -someone get up there and give him a cuddle - what the **** is wrong with you people?!

i think he wont be the only one being given the shove....bagualy,dea.jerrett maybe nervous around now also....they dont just have 1 spot to fill they have several....ridley,francis and redman all need to be playing....and laverde and ambrose along with gleeson......and daniher......gunna be tough to get a gig down bomberland soon....u have to be real deserving

Bagulay, Dea and J. Merrett are not really in the same category.

Just watched the video and I find it hard to watch when people get emotional, because I get emotional. Misunderstood from the outside, but certainly been a person who has carried a heavy weight, yet never it get him down.
Brendon helped the club fight through its toughest period and if we do have any success over the next few years, he can certainly take some of the credit.

Thank you Brendon.

Is the right decision. But he definitely deserved the flag, and saddened we didn't get there for him.
This man has been huge for the club!
Would not be surprised to see him play for another club next year.

Great player at his peak. Good player now. Came to Essendon in the hope of winning a flag and the Club let him down.

As each year passed over the last few years, he lost speed and flexibility. The mind was willing but the body stopped him doing what he hoped. He started making mistakes that he would never make earlier in his career.

With a group of top youngsters coming through, he may have found himself dropped to the VFL next year. It is far better for him to be seen as a star of the game and finish on a high. He has been too great a player to finish at VFL level.

Think he could provide great value to a young team where his position in the team is earnt and he is not threatened by 3-4 guys wanting to take his place each week. He would also be a valuable asset as a coaching assistant at Essendon.

That was really hard to watch.

My mind strays to the things you read, or things that are spoken about a person from the outside. The criticisms.

This is just another reminder that these are just people, trying their absolute best. Brendon more than others was the embodiment of hard work. What this club is becoming was built off what he brought every day he was here and it will stay with this group after hes gone.

God i hope we can send him out a winner on Friday.

As supporters, I think one of the reasons BJ’s leaving is hitting so hard is the passing of time where no success came to fruition. Six years ago he was the first and biggest free agent there has been and WE got him. With that came the hope that maybe he could be the missing ingredient for a solid, finals quality list to take the next step. Now that time has passed and we still haven’t got there... but we’re on the cusp... and BJ couldn’t quite hang on to see it through. It makes me realise just how significant our next premiership will be. The saga will never be over until that happens.

Hi Bombers.

Apologies if I’m covering old ground because I haven’t read this thread through, but all the best to this bloke. He was epic for the Saints but I hated him for long-lasting-general-Saints-related reasons (I have a thing about that team and I can’t even recall the origins now) but I got a new level of respect for him after he moved to the Bombers. He stood up in a shitstorm of mess for his team in the worst of times and played like a champ through the lot. I don’t give a shit about the pretzels thing. I don’t much like pretzels anyway. But I would put money on some of your younger players thanking him for his role in their development. I like him. He’s a different sort of character and shows a bit of emotion but that should never be a crime. Plus his career speaks for itself.

We made the right call.

He'll go on and play somewhere else; he obviously feels like he has more to give and there will be a few clubs who will be interested in him. But apart from on-field leadership he wasn't really providing anything to the team this year that couldn't next season be provided by someone younger with more potential. Good that his position has been freed up for the likes of Redman and Ridley to step in to.

Been a rock through some of the hardest times at the club and he'll always be appreciated by Essendon supporters for that.

The exact decisions required to be made by this club, he needed to move on, has been a great servant since his arrival, but the fact is, we still need to build and provide opportunities and look forward to more youth with the likes of Ridley Redman Gleeson now getting their chance

All the best BJ:thumbsupemoji::clapping:
