No coincidence that Shiel names Stringer first as the player he is looking forward to playing with. He knows that Merrett, Heppell, Daniher, Hurley, Hooker, Zaka etc will all prepare immaculately for the season but getting and keeping Stringer on board is absolutely key to our success. Shiel is A grade professional.

Which is all well and good but if they are turning down 2 first rounders they arent turning around speaking to the club that Dylan hadnt agreed to go to and accepting 1 future first.

But of course the history has been written and we were 3rd in line to get him mid way through negotiations

I have no doubt Carlton were close in that they were probably his second choice but if the deal falls down he goes back to the Giants. Either that or Blues give up pick 1 this year as part of it and I question whether the Blues do that tbh.

Agree with this. The whole Carlton piece to me personally, I find irrelevant; precisely because he didn't nominate them.

Interestingly, the article on the HUN talks about how McCartney tried to convince Dylan to stay with the Giants as they had freed up their cap space. Man, that guy really must hate Dodo after getting fisted in the Stringer deal.

Mid way? We were 3rd in line up til an hour before the deadline, where we buckled like a cheap suit and took the deal that we were reported here to have taken 2 days earlier.
