Player Watch #9: Luke Davies-Uniacke [Part II] - [C7/J.Ralph] LDU declares he wants to be a NM player for life; '24 SBM - congrats LDU

In Larkey's interview, he mentioned LDU was in career best condition and had shaved 20 seconds off his time trial.

Since Noble was fired, LDU has when healthy been the best North Melbourne player that I've seen since Carey. He was already an uninterrupted from injury year away from the Brownlow, so it's hard to even comprehend what him going to another level would look like.

One of the all time greatest WTF’s in that he had to ask Noble if he could play more midfield time.

What an incredible mistake that guy was.

You also had Ben Amarfio telling people that he thought LDU was a bust.

No wonder we've won 12 games in four years when we had those clowns in charge.

I hate to dwell on past torturous experiences but I never understood the rationale behind playing LDU in the middle for an entire quarter where he has significant impact, then plonk him at HFF to rot away for 2 quarters and the game is over by then.

They caused their own demise by making some really stupid gameday rotations.

A game I specifically remember was the one against Carlton where we essentially got done once LDU stopped attending centre bounces and lined up at HFF.

That was pretty much confirmation that our gameday tactics were essentially so poor it relied on individual efforts to play well and by stopping that too, nullified all the offensive capabilities.

Ugh. Misery loves company.

Yes people aren’t taking into account a full season from LDU, TT, CamZ, warlord , some proper talls at either end, better fitness across the board and bedding down the game plan- it’s a game changer
Wouldn’t be shocked with a 10 win season - too few sides are standouts but the rest you could throw a blanket over and any game is winnable.
WCE beat dogs , we should have beaten swans and were 5 goals up against the godees.
North should be fearing NO team.

While guys like Wardlaw, Sheezel, TT, Mckercher, Duursma and the other new guys are understandably getting a lot of attention, LDU is in career best preseason form and priming himself for a top 5 Brownlow finish.

Hoping for an injury free preseason and regular season because he's going to absolutely rip it to shreds.

We've got a lot of quality on our list now but I still think he's the best of them.
Yep he looks absolutely primed

Only played 7 games alongside TT last year.

And only 3 with the Warlord too.

Just imagine if we get a season where the best iteration of our midfield is available to play for most of the year.
I'm so conditioned to misfortune that I can't even imagine that. It's like the maximum expectation is what happened this year, and anything beyond that is an untouchable void

Zurhaar playing a full season would also make a huge difference. It’s no coincidence that Collingwood won the flag with low injuries, not suggesting that we can win the flag, but it would definitely help if our best players stayed on the park

Zoomba23: I understand completely what you are saying, I've heard a few North supporters saying the same thing, some still saying it, others thought last year we were going to rise, but we needed a little more talent and while I thought we would improve, we did to an extent, plus the extra 12 months into the boys, extra fitness, slightly altered game plan and hopefully a TAD LESS INJURIES, well the last time I have been this excited was when we got Daniel Wells, a great footballer, but we didn't surround him with extra talent, not really our fault in "2002" Draft as it was one of the weakest Drafts this century. We had the picks but unfortunately the talent wasn't there. I know we did the best we could, Hamish wasn't a bad pick around pick 9, the others picks 18 and 25, again the talent simply wasn't there. This is why this is so important { Harry, Tom, Will, George, Eddy, Paul, Miller, Josh, Brayden, Colby Zane, Will, Taylor, Riley } to go with the few top players we have, Yes I know we have done a full rebuild but if in this day and age your going to do it, by heck you had better do it right. We did and we have, I am under no illusions as to how hard its going to be, but I feel everything has been put in place, block by block, I know I've said this elsewhere but Zoomba23: allow yourself to take the conditioning and throw it away, the misfortune will be replaced with joy and extreme happiness that you can't imagine, LDU is now ready to rock and roll, TARRYN is going to cut loose, GEORGE, well you've seen a little bit what he can do, he's been managed very well and having watched him as a 17 year old, good god, I'm not sure some people are aware how quickly this is going to happen. Luke was very close last year to getting to that stage, injury didn't help, but losing that little bit of weight and getting to that fitness level that he had too, he's now there, he's the key, always has been, that game in round 1 or 2 in which he cut the opposition to shreds was just a small sample, believe!

Yes well being pulled aside and called Lard-arse-Luke at seasons end , I'm sure has assisted his motivation.
ok wasn't called LaL, I added that for dramatic effect.

My question is who didn’t get called “Lard arse” at season’s end? Bailey Scott was about the only bloke that could run out of sight on a dark night.

The Talent Scout I really like your posts BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PUT SOME PARAGRAPH BREAKS IN.

cant recall any team winning a flag on the back of a bad run of injuries. attrition tests depth and if your fortunate enough for your stars to stay healthy your a good chance.

Spot on, I've always put in paragraph breaks but all of a sudden I find myself not doing it, how odd! Must be all this excitement with the club, players we got and the direction we are heading. Thank you "My Left Foote," for reminding me, no wonder I was getting a headache when I was reading over my posts.

“If I was nervous to meet anyone, it was probably Luke Davies-Uniacke, because he’s just a star player of the club who I’ve watched a lot of over the last few years.”

Colby knows.
