One is an All Australian and the other isn’t.

I’m not saying that LDU should have been AA but it’s interesting to compare his stats to a player that was picked and everyone was raving about their work in the midfield.

lol, i know who i'd rather have in my team. Wouldn't mind both of course...

100% LDU all the way baby!

I just find it interesting that LDU stats wise is comparable to Rozee who is now an All Australian, yet I wouldn’t have thought anyone would have even considered LDU’s year.

Let’s face it, it’s nothing more than a media fluff exercise now anyway.

Rozee spent the first four games of the season playing forward pocket and barely got near it. After a (long overdue) move to the midfield in Round 5, he averaged around 26 disposals from there onwards. He also finished top 5 in the AFLCA votes.

That said, you could say a similar thing about LDU's season, he also had a relatively slow start. If LDU plays a full year in 2023 of the same quality as his second half of the year in 2022, he'll be an absolute walkup start to the 2023 AA side.

If LDU comes back next year and continues with what he did this year with steady improvement then he might end up being our best player since the 90's.
Yeah it's a big call, but he has it all, size, speed, kicking, marking.
Cunners is much cleaner, but he lacked pace, which is the only thing that stopped him from being the best player in the game.
Harvey was brilliant but lacked size, etc...

Noble did exactly the same thing with LDU, let him wither on a flank while our midfield was getting pummeled.

That was the whole point. The AA team is a wankfest.

I would be surprised in the selectors hardly watched many North games.

I don’t think LDU had anywhere near an AA year but it’s interesting when you compare his year to someone who did.

Laird and Warner were unlucky to not get spots based on their years.

That he wasn't even in the squad was disgraceful.
Maybe. It’s not a big deal anyway.

It’s a popularity contest more than anything.

If he keeps tracking like he did in the back half of the year, I couldn’t care less if he never made the squad. All it shows is that the process is a joke.

I give zero fecks about awards and so forth.
I want flags.

Both South Australian teams were mediocre this year but there is pretty much a minimum quota for players from Adelaide or Port in the AA team regardless of how badly they are traveling. A North player will never displace a South Australian team player based on similar stats.

I actually don’t think LDU’s year was good enough for consideration given his first half of the year was pretty average (due to Noble not playing him correctly).

I just found it interesting that one player is now an All Australian and the other barely raised a mention, yet statistically their years aren’t that dissimilar.

It also can’t be argued about the hurt factor, because LDU’s breakaway clearances are very damaging and result in the ball going inside 50 a lot of the time. Given a better forward structure he will be an absolute weapon.

His last 12 weeks were as good as anyone in the comp.

I know but he was effectively tied down in the first half of the year through Noble’s inept coaching.

I think someone mentioned it in the AA Team thread on the main board. LDU will always be overlooked due to small team syndrome. He virtually has to blow away someone similar to be considered on a level footing.

It sucks but that is why the AA Selection process is a total wank.

for better or worse, playing in a 2 win side has a pretty big bearing on it too
