A-League - Round 16: Melbourne Victory v Gold Coast United

Really looking forward to this one......and seeing what the view is from my usually sh*tty Row F seat (which I have spent two half games in all season).

As usual we go in on the back of a shyte home performance last time out followed by the collection of 3 points on the road. How we are top right now I will never know, but Branko probably summed it up appropriately the other day when explaining Newy's position!

Anyone got a link to a proper league table with home and away records separated? All the ones I can find have total wins, draws, losses only.

Fitzimmons finger!!!!:eek::eek::eek:

That pinky finger is pointing the wrong direction!:p:eek:

And now Thompson misses a wonderful chance to open the scoring!

Real cracker of an opening 30 minutes.:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

EDIT: Kruse scores a great goal to open the scoring, 1-0 Melbourne.

Stupid Fox Sports, going to the 4th official to hold up the board as Ward went to shoot. I was thinking to myself, he could score here why are they going to the 4th official's board, and then... bam! 2-0!!

Victory with most of the play. Brebner's injury looked terrible. Hope it's not as bad as first looked. Victory will be happy enough at half time being 2-0 up. Let's score a few more!

Geez, that was a really good chance. It astounds me how poor players are at heading in this league. All he needed to do was flick it on, and its 2-1. I suppose you could give him the benefit of the doubt that he's only just come on, but to me thats a simple finish.

Brebner thinks he's broken his ankle. Thats terrible news.
You could see when the physio chick was checking it out he threw his head back in real pain. I thought then that it was at least fractured or had a crack in it.

Gold Coast are crap. That was so piss easy. Very nice move by Melbourne, this could end up like Wellington v Gold Coast, Higgins is in goals after all :p

Very nice finish by Archie, Higgins hasn't really been able to do much, and alternatively Langerak has had nothing to do.

I was thinking going into the game tonight how good it is to be on top of the league but with so much improvement left in us. Some of our football this season has been average to say the least.

Well I can't say the same thing tonight. That was one of the better games we've played for a long time.

Nicky Ward was outstanding and it does hurt me to say that a little because I'm one of his biggest critics. I was hoping Heart would sign him! I'll happily eat my words tonight. Some of his passing in the final third was top class.

Thompson will continue to have his critics as well but he was excellent again. Hernandez and Kemp likewise. Kruse looked a little off the boil until the 28th minute. Hopefully he can get some consistency but you can't question the talent as we saw from that goal and a few of his touches around the pitch.

Apparently Brebners parents are over from Scotland and going home tomorrow so it's terrible that they were in town to see him go down like that.

Unlike most Victory fans I don't really have a problem with Leigh Broxham. I think the issue was that Merrick was playing both he and Brebner at the same time. As far as I'm concerned they are both defensive midfielders and you play one or the other. Brebs is just the better player of the two and now Leigh has a chance to cement a spot in the starting line-up.

Our away form has been better than at home which is a good sign with the next two games on the road. Hopefully Sydney lose and we get a bit of breathing space.

Hard to remember the last time we put such a quality 90 minutes together against good opposition. Probably the first leg of the semi against Adelaide last season, although the level of the opponent's display could be questioned that night. Tonight, I think we would have flogged any team in this league. Sensational performance. Nick Ward was huge in the centre of the park, when he plays well we truly go to another level. Let's hope we can keep him fit and in form for the rest of the season. Kruse created some real havoc, Archie was sharp in front of goal and our build-up play was simply outstanding at times. Let's just hope that's not a serious injury to Brebner, because with him and Celeski gone, we don't have much depth left in the middle of the park. Broxham, Ward and Pondeljak will have to do the job.

Great atmosphere too, wonderful to see the four sides of the ground all involved. :thumbsu:
